I just discovered New College a few weeks ago, and honestly I’ve fallen in love! I’m freaking over the essay though, I want to wow them, but I’m blanking! Am I going in the ‘right’ direction with this introduction, or for that matter any direction at all?

What I’m having trouble doing is finding how to relate my personal story of discovering the wonderfully close-knit eccentric, and slightly mad (all the best people are ;]) New College community to that of Alice. I mean this technically, not in content if that makes sense.

I used the Common App topic: Pick a fictional character or artistic work that has had an impact on you, and how it has influenced you. (Paraphrased, sorry I’m on my Iphone)

When asked what fictional character I feel the greatest affinity with, Lewis Carroll’s, Alice, unequivocally comes to mind. From my first read of both, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, and Through The Looking Glass, in the 10th grade, I took a sense of whimsy and fantasy, along with an eerie sense that I had found my literary doppelganger. Just as so many other curiosities of my mind, though, I wrote it off as a triviality of a teenage mind. Thankfully though, rabbit holes can appear in the most unexpected of places and I rediscovered mine in the New College of Florida. In finding my own Wonderland I realized the entirety of my kinship and semblance to Alice, and discovered myself.
