Help with My Score

Composite: 29

English: 22 (seems low, hand score?)
Math: 29
Reading:29
Science:35 (surprise! surprise!)

I’d like to get into say UT, IU, USC, C Mellon, Notre Dame , etc. I did a little research and it seems that this score is within the average of all of these schools, if not higher (UT, IU). Is there any place where my science score would really help out my chance for acceptance? My dream school is Cornell and I know they have great science programs there, could a 35 help a lot, or do they get pleanty of thoes? Should I retake, I really don’t want to lose my stellar science score? Thanks a lot!

The problem with retaking would be the fact that it seems that your science score was pure luck and that if you retake you might not get as luckly, the positive is that with a little review you could easily raise your english score to compensate for your science score; but don’t take offense to me refering to your science score as luck that is just what i am assuming. If your science score is natural then without a doubt retake, if not don’t let that deter you, you should still retake you never know.

definitly retake it, you can improve your English way more, at least to a 30. It’s one of the easiest section, i have no doubt you will not improve that score you take more practice tests

Haha, wow! I think you’re the only person i’ve ever seen on here who has scored extremely high in science but lower in everything else. What’s your secret?

Unfortunately, I have my doubts that colleges pay that much credence to individual subject scores - particularly the science. It’s more of a reasoning test than a general knowledge test. Just my guess though.

You really can do a lot to improve your scores still. In fact, you have possibly the best possible scores for raising. English is arguably the easiest score to raise, which you seem to have the most trouble in, with science being the hardest, which you have no trouble in at all.

MIT and related technical schools in particular are big on science, so if there was actually any benefit to having a high score in science on the ACT, i’m guessing it would be there…
