Can anyone give me advice on my PS? I feel it is kinda vague and general but im not sure on how to fix it 8-| Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

Ever since I was a young kid I have always had one goal in my mind. My goal has always been to “get out”. Get out of my neighborhood, actually do something with my life, and be a successful person. As a young teen, I understood that the only way to “get out” was through either sports, music, or through school. I knew that the best possible way for me to get out was through school. Whether it was seeing all the families in my neighborhood struggle, seeing people get shot at, or myself getting shot at and mugged multiple times, my neighborhood was what motivated me to want to become successful. My dream as a young teenager was to get out of South Gate and never look back.
Growing up there was never really a role model in our community we could look up to and say if he or she made it then I can too. Most of the students who got into great universities, went to school, got successful jobs and never came back. It wasn’t until I entered high school that my goal/dream completely changed. In order to graduate, students need to do some type of service that gives back to the community. At first I began to volunteer at things such as Family Day at the Park and at Blood Drives just to finish my requirement. However, volunteering at these events taught me a lot. I met a lot of great people who made me realize that there were people who made it out from where I grew up, became successful, and still came back to give back to their community. I learned that if everyone just leaves the community after they finish school, how can the community better itself when there aren’t any role models to look up to? A community can never better itself if all the young minds leave as soon as they get the chance. My goal from then on changed.
I do not want to just leave my community and not look back. I want to be the role model that I never had and show kids in my neighborhood and community that “getting out” is possible. I want to continue giving back to my community even after I am finished with school because I know it is the only way it can become a better place. I want to inspire young kids to stay of the streets and that you don’t necessarily need to go to college to become successful. The hardships that I faced growing up in South Gate motivated me to become a successful person and give back to my community.

and right now my main schools that i hope to enter are UCLA or UCB but i also applied to UCSB and UC san diego
