Help with Resumes!

I have no idea what sounds good and what sounds stupid in a resume. Please help me.

Should I say…

Represented Region in National Catholic Forensic Tournament (selected to attend after rigorous competition)

or do I assume they know about the hard competition?

Do I say…

4th best Impromptu speaker in the State Tournament

or placed 4th in Impromptu at State Tournament?

And
Do I say

3rd best Extemporaneous Speaker in the Region, representing region at Catholic Forensic National Tournament

or

Qualifed to CFL National tournament.

Does it even matter? Am I just worrying about semantics?

Please help I feel so stupid for not knowing how to write a resume… :/

Is this a resume for a job, or a summary of your EC’s for a college or scholarship application?

You certainly don’t need more than a line or two about any EC’s. A fourth best placing probably should be at the state level or higher to be mentioned. Summarize your EC’s and get to what they really want to read: why you are the right person for this job/scholarship/college.
A suggested wording: 3rd Place, Extemporaneous Speaking, Chicago Region, Catholic Forensic Tournament, 2009
Or summarize under a topic, i.e., Forensics: 3rd place, Extemporaneous Speaking, Chicago Region; 4th place, Impropmptu Speaking, Midwest Region; 4th place, Illinois State Final, National Catholic Forensic Tournament, 2009.
