Help with Sr. schedule

D2 just got her AP Lang score and did well enough that she will automatically receive 6 credits and place out of Expo. writing and college writing at the school she will be attending. She also placed out of the same classes based on her high English section score on the ACT. She is signed up to take a college in the school English class from U of MN that will award her 4 credits toward freshman English which will transfer to her school of choice for the exact same courses. There are no other AP/Honors English classes for her to take and she has all the English credits needed for graduation. We don’t know whether to encourage her to take an easy English(to keep her hand in the process, so to speak) or push for a more challenging class in a different subject area like science or even accounting which could lay a foundation for future major considerations. She thinks she wants to be a business major and minor in human biology. Thoughts???

can she audit an english class (if your school does weighted gpa) and take a regular level class in something shes interested in (film and lit, world literature, etc) ? If not, and she’s taking an english course at U of MN at the time, there’s no need for her to take an additional english course. She should focus on a math or science class (pertaining to her intended major)

I would check to see what the pre-reqs are for the biology classes. They often have a bunch of math and chemistry required. If so, she could get a leg up on those classes.

ellemenope…I was leaning that way, too! She’s already completed chem so I tried to push Calc. She says she only wants one math next year and she’s already taking AP stats. That’s why I thought I could strongly encourage her to take accounting which does give credit from the U of MN but I would encourage her not to transfer it so she learns the system where she is going. There is also another science college credit class that interests her…Anatomy & Physiology. She is very interested in the course but doesn’t like the teacher! sigh…

The human biology minor she is looking at is "appropriate for students seeking careers in industrial, managerial, or sales positions in biological or health-related industries or entry-level research positions with pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies. " There is not alot of high math/chem required. She thought this would comine nicely with her interst in business and the medical field.
