Help would be appreciated regarding Biology major requirements

I’m curious if I’m absolutely required to take a language my first semester. I would like to take Portuguese but it does not fit in my schedule. Thus I’d like to take it next semester, that way I wouldn’t be starting a language now that I’d soon abandon.

Oh, and I’m doing divisional studies by the way.

Furthermore, I have lots of other questions regarding my schedule and my courses, and I have no idea who to contact. As far as I know, I don’t have an advisor. Who do I reach out to?

No you’re not required to take a language in your first semester or even your first year. You basically just need to complete the requirement by the time you graduate. However, I recommend trying to take classes that will count towards something (major requirements, minor requirements, divisional studies), because during my freshman year I took some random classes, and I ended needing to take some summer classes to keep my schedule from getting too overloaded with difficult science classes.

If you have already declared yourself as a biology major you may already have been assigned an advisor. Go to the studentlink and click the academic advising link under the academics tab. If you have been given an advisor the name and email will appear there.
If you haven’t been to orientation yet then during orientation you will meet with someone in the biology apartment to help you select your classes.

Very informative. Thanks!

It appears I do not in fact have an advisor.
