Help!

Im looking at schools for music education. Are WVU and Pittsburgh good choices?

Don’t know about those two, but I would recommend asking your current teachers and any other music teachers that you know. Generally, they will have opinions and will recommend schools that they think would be good for you. None of S’s current teachers said negative things about the school’s on his list but teachers from other areas ie church were much more candid and definitely had opinions, good and bad. So go to the professionals and ask! Good luck.

States often have specific requirements to teach. You may want to consider where you hope to work after graduation and chose a college in that state. Also, choosing a college in-state can be much cheaper.

Funny aside: I was looking online to see if I could find any specific music ed school rankings (I didn’t) and found this article about music schools. The funny part is that under sources, the last source is Bassdad’s thread about being a music major!

I don’t trust music school rankings as a rule. There are too many variables - like what you are specifically looking for, or the individual instrument teacher, etc. But I do trust certain education rankings - like how many education grads actually pass the boards, or graduate in 4 years, or find jobs. That’s what I was looking for.

What about Case Western or Ball State?

My kids middle school band director went to WVU and he’s awesome!
