I have a reall tough choice to make, I have no idea where to go for college, I have like 32 choices and none of them wow me, but 6 impress me

Michigan State

tennessee

St. John Fisher

SUNY Stony Brook

West Virginia

University Of Rochester

Backround
I am currently a Junior at a small high school, in the top 5% of my class with a GPA of around 3.7 (95-96 avg.). Taking AP US history, Calculus AB and BC, Physics B, statistic, economics, biology, chemistry (my school doesnt offer it, but I may independent study)
SAT score of 1250 (590 reading, 660 Math), taking it again
haven’t taken ACTs yet (need to get on that)
hope to be a pharmasist one day
I plan to get a undergraduate in biomedical engineering, then attend pharmacy school
want to have fun at college and experience it, not spend 24/7 keeping up (I understand biomedical engineering is tough, but my sister handled it fine, even while maintaing a social life. She had a lower GPA than I)

Money situation
parents will pay for the price of the school I attend’s in state tuition, have to loan or scholarship the rest

distance
not very homesick
like medium sized campuses, MUST HAVE GREEN GRASS at least somehwere, went to Michigan State for OM last year, loved it

any suggestions?

feel free to throw in new schools

thanks

What’s your home state?

Michigan State

tennessee

St. John Fisher

SUNY Stony Brook

West Virginia

University Of Rochester

Wow. Very… varied choices.

St. John Fisher is about as far away from UOR you can get. I mean, it has religious affiliation, is an extremely small (but gorgeous) campus, and doesnt have a very competitive sports program like Mich. State…
But I mean, St. John has a great pharmacy program.
But, so does University of Buffalo. Did you consider there?

MSU is HUGE!! the campus is so big… if you’re looking for mid size… def not it

MSU is huge, but the varied programs can be quite small, including a number of residential colleges of around 1,000 students total featuring classrooms, labs, libraries and faculty offices all within dorm/cafe complexes (where students don’t even have to go outside if they don’t want. But I’m sure you’d want to as MSU’s campus is among the nation’s most beautiful. Also, biomedical engineering (as is all engineering) is pretty strong and Michigan State also…

In terms of reputation and quality, I’d probably select on your list: 1) U. Rochester, 2) MSU and 3) SUNY Stony Brook (most of the SUNY schools are very good.

thnak you all very much for your input

In response to “Erin’s Dad”, I reside in NYS, so U of R and SUNY Stony Brook are the closest choices, and cheapest. but I see little difference in terms of time with my family between a ~4 hour trip to Stony Brook and a ~9 hour trip to MSU

U of R, however is only around 30-35 minutes from my house, so it is reasonably distanced.

I did look into UB, but my dad went there and I don’t want to go to the same college as him, I spent my whole high school career in my valedictiorian sister’s shadow, don’t want that in college. ha.

another question, does it pay to apply to many different schools?

Stony Brook is a very good school and you can’t beat the (in state) price. As far as applications, DD1 applied to 2 each of reaches, meets and safeties. Some other people apply to more.

yes, i liked variety when i picked… though most were last minute… lol, it was fun

So, does this sound good for applications:

Reach:
RPI (in NY, great engineering)
U of R

Moderate:
MSU
SUNY Stony Brook

Safety:
Monroe Ocmmunity college (Just in Case)
St. John Fisher

?

yeah, that sounds fairly good.

but again, keep open your options- your taste could easily change.

Also, keep in mind the extreme differences between each college you applied too. (religious campus, HUGE campus, out of state)

Also, if you don’t plan on going to MCC, don’t apply there.
If you just happen to get rejected from each school in your mod’s and reach’s (which you wont) then you can just sign up after. MCC should be your last choice. Quite honestly, with your credentials, i wouldn’t even consider it, unless your worried about money.
