Okay here is my problem: In my school an A is 80-100%. So you can get a 4.0 GPA if you have 80’s in everything. Do you think universities will recalculate my GPA if they see that I have a 4.0 GPA and do not have all 90’s?

Also, I got an 85% in World History but an 800 on SAT World History. How would that look to admissions officers?

And

What if your application is glowing but a teacher writes a mediocre recommendation? How much weight do recommendations carry?

Thanks!

Answers:
Universities will recalculate your GPA according to their scale, so sadly your 4.0 will not stay. They will say a 4.0 is 93-100, a 3.7 is 90-93, etc. Your 85% in world history and your 800 on the SAT won’t mean much, it will simply look like you studied hard for the SAT and did decently in class.
If your app is glowing and your teacher writes mediocre recs, then yes, you take a hit. How much of a hit depends on the school you are applying to, but recs typically carry a good amount of weight at top schools. Knowing this, pick teachers who love you and who you know will write awesome recs for you (and pick teachers who know how to write well, as if your bio teacher writes like a 3rd grader you won’t want him to report on your abilities to Harvard)
