Help

My D just started her internship yesterday in NYC. She just found out last night that the place she was going to be living in this summer (and did last summer) is now NOT an option. In other word, she must move out.

She called us hysterical crying and does not know what to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where she could live for the summer or even a few weeks?

ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

Was she at a summer residence, a hostel or a hotel?

What are her requirements?

Her college/university alumni association has a list of alums in the area. One of them surely would be able to put her up for a couple of nights while she sorts this out.

Back in the last century, people used to live at the YMCA and YWCA, for ideas, start here:
[YMCA of Greater New York: New York City Youth Hostels | Cheap Manhattan Hotel Guest Rooms](http://www.ymcanyc.org/index.php?id=963)
[YWCA of the City of New York](http://www.ywcanyc.org/)
My college roommate lived in a “hotel for women” in the early '80s but I can’t remember the name of the place. Here is the link for one I could find:
[The Brandon Residence for Women – Affordable Temporary Housing in New York City](http://www.thebrandon.org/)

Good luck to both of you!

She should talk to people at her internship. She may be able to stay with someone in the company, house sit, etc. Usually internship coordinators and other employees are very helpful in finding housing.

Try a hostel, perhaps. There are a bunch of them in NYC. They seem to run $30-40/night for a private room. If you Google “New York City hostel” you’ll get a whole bunch of listings, and can read reviews.

morrismom - your daughter goes to my daughter’s school. I think a lot of them are staying at the NYU dorm, or try this:
[Educational Housing Services | It?s How You Want to Live!](http://www.studenthousing.org/)

One of my intern is staying at one of those dorms. The cost is around 3000 for a double.

My S’s apartment is for sublet for the summer. It’s expensive though - three of them share it during the school year. It’s on the upper (upper!) westside, but on a train line. PM me if you want details.

NYU Housing still has spots open according to the summer housing site

Thank-you so much everyone. My h and I are looking into your suggestions. It is a bad situation in many ways. She has to find a place to live asap, her internship hours require her to be at work at 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 or so p.m.(hard to look for a place to live) and there is major heart break involved.

We feel so helpless being hours away. We have offered to go get her, but she does not want to leave the internship.

She is a very strong, determined and smart young woman. Right now, she seems broken.

Additional suggestions and ideas are welcome.

Google “The Markle” it’s a woman’s residence in the village run by the Salvation Army and pretty nice. It’s a few blocks from NYU.

Multiple youth hostels for IMMEDIATE housing:

Heart break is the hard one to deal with, everything else is easier to solve. There are quite a few of her classmates in NYC. If she needs a place to crash for a few days, I don’t think it would be too hard.

Few of my daughter’s friends are there this summer. They are loving it. The one downtown has a gym, social events almost every night.

There have been some apartments for sublet on the classical singers web site (nfcs.net)… you might look there…

If she gets desperate my family (self, hubby, and 2 grown daughters) will be in Manhattan Fri-Mon night…we could put her on a cot in our hotel room…We are currently in Boston for DD graduation. PM me if this would help and I’ll give you my number

If you have time, morrismm, please reassure us that she is OK tonight.

I believe my d’s dorms at her college have rented out rooms in past summers- Marymount Manhattan on the Upper East side.
