My D just started her internship yesterday in NYC. She just found out last night that the place she was going to be living in this summer (and did last summer) is now NOT an option. In other word, she must move out.

She called us hysterical crying and does not know what to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where she could live for the summer or even a few weeks?

Her college/university alumni association has a list of alums in the area. One of them surely would be able to put her up for a couple of nights while she sorts this out.

She should talk to people at her internship. She may be able to stay with someone in the company, house sit, etc. Usually internship coordinators and other employees are very helpful in finding housing.

Try a hostel, perhaps. There are a bunch of them in NYC. They seem to run $30-40/night for a private room. If you Google “New York City hostel” you’ll get a whole bunch of listings, and can read reviews.

My S’s apartment is for sublet for the summer. It’s expensive though - three of them share it during the school year. It’s on the upper (upper!) westside, but on a train line. PM me if you want details.

Thank-you so much everyone. My h and I are looking into your suggestions. It is a bad situation in many ways. She has to find a place to live asap, her internship hours require her to be at work at 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 or so p.m.(hard to look for a place to live) and there is major heart break involved.

We feel so helpless being hours away. We have offered to go get her, but she does not want to leave the internship.

She is a very strong, determined and smart young woman. Right now, she seems broken.

Additional suggestions and ideas are welcome.

[url=http://www.loftstel.com/]LOFTSTEL | the favorite destination for international students & interns/url

Heart break is the hard one to deal with, everything else is easier to solve. There are quite a few of her classmates in NYC. If she needs a place to crash for a few days, I don’t think it would be too hard.

There have been some apartments for sublet on the classical singers web site (nfcs.net)… you might look there…

If she gets desperate my family (self, hubby, and 2 grown daughters) will be in Manhattan Fri-Mon night…we could put her on a cot in our hotel room…We are currently in Boston for DD graduation. PM me if this would help and I’ll give you my number
