i know Georgetown is a super selective school esp SFS…but do they look at the stats more or essays and activities? Im a good writer so my essays will be great…since i plan on writing them in the summer…and my recommendations will be excellent…i have many activities relating to the foreign service like girls state, internship with congressman, internship with local newspaper, RYLA (rotary youth leadership awards), ROTC,leadership in many clubs, presidential classroom and hopefully working for dept. of state this summer if i get it…however i go to a vocational school and most of my classes are in medicine/science which sucks b/c im not interested in them. my GPA is kinda low…will this hurt my chances??? its like a 3.4u 3.8w …everything else is good.

I think every more or less selective school is now forced to look more at essays and various other personal criteria over numbers. Unless the numers just really stand out for some reason - good or bad - there’s an enormous pool of people who, based on their grades and scores, appear to be academically qualified to do work here. Looking at the more individual attributes is where the sorting process really begins.

Georgetown is one of the more inpredictable schools, at least from my experience. I know straight A, 2200+ students who have gotten rejected. And then I know kids with not so good test scores or grades get in (absolutely no hooks either). I know kids who have gotten into Ivies and other top 10 schools and not into georgetown. Then, I know kids who haven’t gotten into any other school inside the top 25 who have gotten into Georgetown.
