[Carjacking suspect arrested on prom night, girlfriend not happy - Chicago Sun-Times](http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/12936326-418/carjacking-suspect-arrested-on-prom-night-girlfriend-not-happy.html)

He’s 20. I wonder how old his girlfriend is (well hopefully was).

The fashion police will want a word with him too.

Classy prom meal at McDonalds too.

There is, of course, a little more to the story. Google is so helpful! The girlfriend is 17. The 1997 Burgundy Explorer or Expedition (depending on the version you find online) was carjacked at 9 am and then spotted by its owner later in the day at McDonalds. The perp was arrested and charged with a variety of felonies, including weapons, drugs, etc as well as the carjacking.

And the girlfriend contacted the police to complain “her prom was ruined.” Perhaps the Chicago cops should have offered a replacement escort to her prom? Formal uniform attire is always in style …

Turns out, the quote in the Sun-Times is incomplete. The young “lady” actually complained to police that her “prom was ruined” when her boyfriend jacked a 15-year-old ride to take her to her prom! ;)

After the laughter has died down (and believe me, after reading this story my eyeballs nearly rolled out of my head), the sobering thought here is that this perpatrator is totally disconnected from the norms of society at large in that he thought nothing of engaging in a criminal action and probably would have shot dead the poor victim without a second thought. What’s also disturbing is the likelihood that his prom date knew that the “new ride” that her beau showed up with was stolen and cared not one whit how he obtained it.

Sounds like he took his fashion sense from 21 Jump Street. Though I think they wore dark tennis shoes with their white tuxedoes.

Anyone planning to send this to Leno for his “stupid criminals” bit?

On the contrary, LakeWashington. Here is a young man of no means and very few prospects, who wants to take his girlfriend to the prom, and who knows that guys usually pick up their dates in cars. He took the trouble to finding a tux, and he took the trouble to find a car too. It’s actually just really sad.

This young man with little means had a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number that he pulled on another human being. I have no pity for him especially since Chicago has excellent public transit. There was no need to rob another human being of money and vehicle with a gun that can’t be traced. Are we to excuse the drugss as party favors?

I hope you are being sarcastic.

Out of curiosity, why does the traceability of the gun affect the morality of the situation?

I agree. Such people are a product of a broken system. That doesn’t mean I condone his actions, especially since the guy driving the 15 year old Ford probably wasn’t getting the good end of society, either. But I am willing to say that it’s sad.

How do you know he was a product of a broken system? Even if he was, that doesn’t mean it’s “sad” that he committed a crime.

“Out of curiosity, why does the traceability of the gun affect the morality of the situation?”

The gun wasn’t just some gun that he found to use in a crime of opportunity, like a handgun belonging to a relative, etc, but rather a weapon that was modified for the express purpose of criminal activity.

The majority of the people in this country that are poor do not resort to crimes.

To me, it is always sad when a young person ruins his/her life. Whatever hope existed for this young man is over due to his stupid decisions.

I just don’t get the use of the word “sad” in this case.

I think it’s sad when a family member dies. I think it’s sad when a close friend moves away. etc. etc. I just don’t understand how it’s sad when a grown man robbed a man at gunpoint.

With all due respect, insomniatic, do you perhaps all on the spectrum? Its fine if so. It would just explain some things.

Huh???

never mind.

lol You crack me up jym626.
