Here are two diff. students....

Here are two different students. They both want to apply to top colleges like Cornell,JHU.

A: 3.9-4.0 GPA. Great ECs. 2250+SAT.Great Rec.BUT ordinary essays.

B:3.75 GPA. Good ECs. 2100+SAT.Great Rec.and ‘‘shiny’’ essays(show passion,interest,etc)

which student is more likely to be accepted?

probably no.1

but don’t ask me, I’m not an admin officer.

if i wasnt mistaken, cornell doesn’t care about the “interest” of the applicant

http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000420.pdf#pagemode=bookmarks</a>
(scroll to page 6 "level of applicant’s interest)

then again the essays are important, soo i dunno

Except their essay last year was also on “why is cornell the right school for you.”

Person A by far. “a good essay can heal the sick, but it can’t raise the dead.” aka a spectacular essay won’t make up for the 4.0 to 3.75 gpa difference and 2250 to 2100 sat difference and from the “great” to “good” e.c. difference. essays count only when you have comparable stats with someone else, and person A has easily better stats than person B.

I’d say Person A.

They essay is larrgely irrelevant unless you have the stats.
