Here or UCLA

I got into both schools, in the school of Engineering. UCLA is offering jack so far, while UMD might give me the Banneker. I really have no idea what to do…

If you get a full Banneker Key four years tuition, room, board, books and fees is zero at Maryland compared to roughly $225,000 at UCLA if you count as out of state. Unless your family is a point one percenter, that’s quite a difference. And to my understanding Clark is highly regarded. Even the partial is well over a six figure difference. But to some families that’s a mere bag of shells.

Not for mine in the slightest…it’s just I’m worried that I’ll get passed over for jobs/internships if I stick with maryland.

Meaning scholarships are needed for me

I think you just answered your question. But choosing a college is an individual and family decision.

@AndrewJeska

Maryland and UCLA are peer institutions and California and the NorthEast are similar economically.

I wouldn’t go to UCLA…a friend of mine went there hates it

.

UCLA certainly has better metrics overall, but not by a huge amount. If engineering is your planned major, you certainly can’t go wrong at UMD…especially if the cost differential is gargantuan. UMD is very well respected.

You will definitely not get passed over for jobs/ internships at maryland. You seem far too concerned with the name of the school you attend. Maryland has a fantastic engineering program and you would be saving an enormous amount of money. To me, this seems like an easy choice. Don’t get caught up in the “prestige” of the college you choose. You get what you put into a school no matter where you go and like the previous poster said, you really can’t go wrong with UMD.
