long one on my research (anecdote on dealing with fear of blood/mice in research)
extra one probably on family/community

whoa, long entry! hope i haven’t scared too many away with the length!

Bottomline–
What do you think? How are my chances and how would I match–or mismatch–with MIT? Advices?

Your stats are good enough, and you seem competitive. You have very strong research experience for a high schooler. You have a lot of cool ECs, some of which show a lot of discipline and dedication, and you have a surprisingly high signal-to-noise ratio in your ECs and awards. I’d say you have about as good a chance as can reasonably be expected, as long as you don’t shoot yourself in the foot in your essays or letters of recommendation.

thanks! I’m finally working on final drafts for my essays…hopefully I can turn my app in soon! (ahh will that day ever come?)

anyone else?

bummpp!

and also, do MIT start reviewing their applications early, like in December, even when the deadline is in January?

Admissions officers may begin reading some of the RD applications in December, although I am pretty sure they have enough to do with EA apps before the holidays.

Selection committee for regular decision, when people are actually admitted, is not until around Valentine’s Day each year.
