Ah- I think I figured out it was in California.
Goosebumps. I am so thrilled for Mr. Tubbz! He will be an inspiration for so many young people, and is truly a change agent in his community.
I agree. A great young man who could have taken his Stanford degree and ran as far away from Stockton but made the choice to make a difference in his community.
I follow him on FB. He would love a shout out from his old CC folks!
The one sad part of the story is the CC veteran who helped him with his applications etc. on a pro bono basis- Carolyn Z. Lawrence. She was a wonderful independent counselor in the San Diego area and I use to use her materials (especially the guide for undocument students) for my students all the time as well as follow her twitter feed which always had excellent resources. She would speak nationally on many college admission issues and was very well-regarded. One day both her website and twitter disappeared and it appears she stopped assisting students with their applications. I have always wondered what happened to her and I hope she is doing okay.

Hello, New Haven Yalie is awesome! She is a junior and is living off campus with a few if her friends. She loves Yale! It’s so funny how CC was my home away from home…and when they put me in a time out in January of 2015, I really missed it. And now? I forget that you guys are even here! How rhe heck are you? @Consolation

I also remember Carolyn. She was a great resource. It was a loss to CC when she stopped posting here. If anyone here is still in contact with her let her know some of us still remember her fondly.

I think Carolyn is still doing private college counseling. It’s been a a few years since I emailed her but I still found her by googling
