Lots of threads asking “what’s the fall-back plan?” or “what can she do with this degree?” so I thought I’d share some concrete examples of people I know with music or acting degrees. I’m in my 40s, so these tend to be in that group:

Voice degree (me) - attorney and political aide, chorus with major symphony
Acting degree (male) - Hollywood actor and theater company founder.
'cello degree - legal secretary.
Voice degree (alto) - adjunct college prof, voice teacher, opera performer.
Voice degree (mezzo) - voice teacher, union opera chorus member, mom.
MT degree (male) - civil rights lawyer.
Oboe performance - press secretary for Congressman.
Acting degree (female) - assistant to Congresswoman.
Piano performance BM - country club mom.
Piano performance DMA - performance career.
MT degree (mezzo belter) - private HS choir director, chorus with major symphony.
Acting degree (male) - theater advocacy lobbyist.
These are my high school and work friends. I know lots of other music/acting majors who work in their fields whom I’ve come to know through musical groups or through my DD.

This is weighted toward my own field (politics) but the short story is that all these people have homes, pay their bills, have friends, etc. Keep in mind that most Americans do NOT have a college degree of any type. Obviously, in choosing to pursue an MT degree there are issues of debt load, lifestyle expectations, etc., that I can’t comment upon.
