Hey Everyone! Chances ED For Class of 2011

Hi. I am currently a junior in a compettitive public high school in New York. My GPA is a 94 UW in mostly honors and AP courses. On my SAT I got 800 CR 740 M 680 WR for a 1540/2220. My SAT 2s were 800 USH 680 Math 1 and 670 Bio, I am planning on taking Literature in October and am expecting a 700+. I have 800 + hours of community service and have decent-good ECs otherwise. First off, what are my chances for ED at CAS right now, and what should I work on. Should I possibly take another SAT II in the fall in addition to Lit. Should I retake SAT to improve my writing score? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated, thanks.

P.S. Could I submit world history, us history, and literature as my 3 SAT 2s or do world and US fall under the same category? Thanks in advance!

BUMP…Please Someone Help Me Out Here
Thanks!

If this helps…although my school doesn’t rank, I believe my GPA places me in the top 10% of my high school class. Please someone, give me advice.

I also received 5s on three AP exams…English Language, US History, and Psychology.

:S im also a hopeful of cornell 2011 (CALS), i guess seeing a lot of chances threads i can give you some advice…

yes US and world history counts as separate SAT IIs…
I really can’t tell what your focus is based on your explanation…read other chances threads and have different sections i.e. GPA, SAT, EC’s, awards, others… that will help more experienced members to post their opinions for your chances.

from what I see as numbers, I think you’re a match…except for that bio one…i personally wouldn’t take the SAT again to improve your writing…2220 is a pretty good score. if you expect to get 700+ on your SAT II literature, you really don’t need to worry about it.

otherwise, good luck! :]

What school do you want to apply to? If engineering, you might wanna take the SAT MATH II Subject Test.

I’d be applying to the College of Arts & Sciences

any specifications of major?

man these '11 chances threads make me feel old

they make me feel refreshed. i remember being in the same boat and frantically trying to read and absorb as much advice as anything was willing to spit out. today is my first day of posting though.

AJ, I don’t see a reason why Cornell would not accept you. Just don’t mess up on the essays ;-)

Thanks everyone for all your help…I’ll be applying as a history major. Someone told me a 1500/1600 on the SAT who otherwise has compettitive stats and decent essays was almost a guarantee of ED admission at Cornell. Maybe that’s true for 2250 scorers now…ugh stupid writing lol…So basically as far as what to work on before my application…at least a 700, hopefully 750+ on SAT II Literature and hard work on essays…any other adivce?

ivies are NEVER a guarantee for anyone. they have the leisure to reject 2400SAT and 5.0 GPA students if they have a good reason.

mm i guess become involved with history if you’re interested in that…? :] SAT i believe only comes thru practice practice practice. although there are “gimmicks” that will “raise your score”, it’s no use…if you don’t use your head in the first place. ;] gud luck to you
