neurology is medicine… so hope u understand that by “teaching” neurology ull have to go to a med school… something MIT doesnt have… on the other hand u can teach Neuroscience or cognitive science with a neurology backround…

^Well, MIT does have a medical program, just not a medical school. The HST program is a joint program between MIT and Harvard, and graduates are awarded an MD from Harvard Med and a master’s degree from MIT.

ahh a program yes… but when he said teaching neurology i mainly thought of in the setting of hospital/med school

yah the HST program is a superb combo

haha, the HST program is really cool, from what I gleaned from the HST graduate students I often talk to. The lab I worked in is actually one of the HST labs, and all the graduate students and professors there are in the HST program, but within HST is SHBT for those people in the lab.

and tarqix: I should have put “cowboy”…err, “cowgirl” as one of my dream careers! lol. yes, I’ve lived and worked on a rural farm b4. ;P

Neurology is not just a medical program my good sir. it includes lots of math and especially philosphy. Mits program is pretty rigorous in it

Well for sure… but when u said u wanted to teach it i was like, “MIT has a med school to teach neurology?”

Then i did some research and found out u wanna teach some of the courses like neuropsychology and neurosci/ cog sci…

Neurology is a great field thats a fact… and coming from someone who enjoys the application of that field (neurosurgery) i respect anyone who agrees.

Actually, I disagree – neurology is a medical field, and it’s concerned with diagnosing and treating (nonsurgically) disorders of the brain and nervous system. Neuroscience is the scientific study of the brain and nervous system, and can involve quite a bit of math and philosophy, depending on your subfield. Some neuroscientists are also neurologists, but not all neuroscientists are. (I am a neuroscientist, but not a neurologist. One of my colleagues is a neuroscientist and a neurosurgeon.)

I’m currently sitting at a lecture hall at a convention of 30,000 neuroscientists, so I feel somewhat qualified to pontificate at this juncture. :)

^^agreed…

Yeah sorry. I used them as interchangeable terms before. Thank you for enlightening me.

First of all, Millerl1te is officially my favorite

90star09 we are officially best friends as of now.

“Some neuroscientists are also neurologists, but not all neuroscientists are. (I am a neuroscientist, but not a neurologist. One of my colleagues is a neuroscientist and a neurosurgeon.)”
Haha, that sounds like a geometry postulate to me!
'All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares!"
:D
