Hey Genius we want your DNA

Duke Univ. wants to collect DNA samples from students with higher measured cognitive abilities. The screening tool they use is the 7th grade SAT score. They wish to identify genetic markers associated with high level of intellectual functioning as well as those associated with developmental delays.

Wise men and women of this board discuss.

The Pretender.

Nah…all are real things. It is fun to read what others are thinking.

Are you telling me they could not find a big enough sample from their student body? If the Duke student body is not smart enough, they should to find some Johns Hopkins undergrads. There is genius everywhere on that campus.

I think that it’s a good idea, just the completely wrong way to measure cognitive ability. Even IQ tests would probably be better.

Boy, I was expecting something entirely different from that subject heading: geniuses being solicited to be sperm donors.

I thought intelligence was entirely environmental?

The genius genes of people who take the SATs in 7th grade will most likely be canceled out by the “get beaten up and have their lunch money stolen” genes that will be linked with them.

believe me, my daughter was a high scoring 7th grader. it can’t possibly be the genes. :)

What do you think about this:

I still like The Pretender as a scary look at delving into and playing with this stuff. It’s available on Hulu for those that haven’t seen it.
