I absolutely love going to a private, parochial school. No stupid prom!

Alterations killed me both years.
Last year as a sophomore I went to prom. That dress was tagged at $390 and I bought it for $120. Alterations cost $75.
This year for my junior prom I bought a dress originally marked at $575 but bought it for $170. Since it was also three sizes too big I spent about $85 on alterations to take it in and shorten it because I’m not able to walk in heels.
Prom is a killer. I’m not allowed to get my hair done this year because we spent more money on alterations, nails, and tanning.
I’m reusing the shoes I wore last year since they still go.
I’ve spent about $400 on prom this year. Which sucks, but whatever.

^ The fact that you can’t get your hair done is such a shame. :D

Spent $65 renting a dress from Rent The Runway that would have costed $600 to buy. Definitely pleased with my decision!

Think about recycling those prom dresses so someone who could never afford a dress can have a chance to wear something pretty - many groups now have a prom dress recycle program ,or you could start your own .

@simpsonlisa …My hair is almost at my butt. It’s extremely difficult to do on my own. Thus, it would be much easier to get it done. It is a shame.

That article is insane! Even if I end up going to prom this year, I don’t anticipate spending more than $200 (ticket included). I’ve never understood spending upwards of $300 on a dress you’ll only wear once. Also, why spend extra money get your hair and makeup done professionally when there’s always youtube tutorials, and everything’s going to get messed up anyways once you start dancing?

I haven’t decided if I’m going to prom this year, but my dress for the Winter Formal was pretty killer. I got it at an outlet for Jessica McClintock for around $50 (Originally more than $300), and it was cute and unique. Bargains are there if you know where to look :)

My hair’s the same length. I can’t even afford to get it cut.

I’ve had my hair cut by a hairdresser twice in my life and I’ve had my nails done once. I’ve never been able to afford tanning. The most expensive clothing item I own cost less than $35.

I don’t have any sympathy. You’re lucky.

Who said I wasn’t lucky? I know I’m fortunate to be able to have someone pay for things like that. No one ever asked for your input in the first place. This isn’t a ****ing contest. Who cares.

$30. I’m reasonably happy with it.

I ordered mine for $85 w/ shipping. I’ll need to get the bust area altered, but it’s something my mom can do, thankfully.
And since I got my shoes for only $33, I can use the money I didn’t spend on more Chick-fil-a!

I’m poor as dirt. I’m going to one of those free prom dress distributions tomorrow; hopefully I can find something nice.

Lol this thread is 4 years old.

But since I missed it the first time <$20. Looked darn good, too.

@ilubooks94 one of my friends found a BEAUTIFUL dress at one of the prom dress re-distribution places. I plan on going next year and returning the dress I wore last year because there were some really pretty dresses that did not look cheap.
