$0. Maybe a nice dress for graduation. (We’ll see.)

I spent $81 on mine (well actually I only paid half of that, yay parents!). JC Penney’s has some pretty awesome stuff. I got a really nice one at ROSS for $20 around homecoming, but it wasn’t quite my “dream dress” so I got the new one. I swear a disney princess would love to have it…its exactly the right blue color, material and is very sparkly as well…its pretty much awesome.

I almost got this one instead, but it is so long that it drags on the ground (despite my being 5’10"), and I was worried that it would get really gross. It has the awesomest bow thing in the world though!:

5$!
(I win?)

Yes. My prom dress was really five dollars, this isn’t a joke.

I went to this Fair Godmother Prom Fair thing at the Mall wehre they let in 20 girls at a time, and give each girl her own personal shopper to help her pick out dresses she wants to try on. All the dresses and gowns were five dollars. I had to make up at five in the morning, pick up my friend, then FREEZE outside in the cold from 6:30-10 in the morning (There were SO MANY PEOPLE waiting in line behind us.). It was TERRIBLE. I never qant to do something like that again, but it was worth it, especialyl since my friend and I were the fifth and sixth person to get in. I LOVE my dress (it’s wine red–exactly the color I wanted, perfect length too, thin straps, comfortable…aaaah…)

And the dresses were of great quality, and from all sorts of designers. These were $200 and $300 dollar dresses (though I don’t know how much my dress orginally cost.) here being sold for $5. It was lovely. My dad said “congratulations!” when I told him—he’s so cheap, lol.

^hmm why were they doing that? like as a promotion or smoething?

I got my dress two years ago, for $9.99  it’s this beautiful jessica mcclintock dress that’s worth at least $300-400.
I was at Lord+Taylors and wasn’t even looking for a dress, but happened upon it on the sales rack- I think they must have dropped a digit by accident!
In any case I’m super excited.

You guys should also never count out thrifting. I got a barely-worn, beautiful lace Gunne Sax gown for $5 about a year ago, and a vintage red satin ballgown for $7- all eyes were on me when I wore it to homecoming. It makes me sad when people pay hundreds for generic looking dresses when you can score a one-of-a-kind for under $20!

^how’d u find that??? wow

I’m not going to prom, but I am trying to find a few cute dresses for senior breakfast, honors banquet, and graduation. I really, really want to find a cute pink (medium shade, kinda bright) dress that it a little above my knees. I already have my shoes picked, and now I just need a dress to go with them. haha

This is random, but what sort of shoes do you wear with a long ivory dress (very romantic in style; not poufy)? My mom suggested silver, but that seems too flashy and modern.

I’m not really used to debating these kinds of things, lol.

We tried the whole thrift store hunting thing but had no luck and eventually just went to Macy’s. It was like somewhere between 50 and 80 dollars (we got it like 20% off, too, because we got this awesome salesperson to help me find the right one, given that I’m clueless about fashion, and she found all these discounts). It’s awesome!

50 bucks at Macy’s, from rampage :)

mflevity, what about some strappy shoes in midnight or navy blue? that would be really unexpected but beautiful. maybe a soft gray if you don’t want silver?

if you wanted to be more traditional, I think white or gold or black would do.

^Thank you! That’s really helpful.

This is an old thread.

Last year, my prom dress was $10. I got it from a dress swap. This year, it was $100, marked down from $200.

[Prom spending rises to average $1,078 this year, survey says | Detroit Free Press | freep.com](http://www.freep.com/article/20120413/FEATURES01/120413021/Prom-spending-rises-to-average-1-078-this-year-survey-says) Interesting article about prom expenses throughout the country. Mine was $25 from Macy’s, but originally $70!!

Got an atypical Betsey Johnson for $40! But my shoes are $150…
