Hey, look--my Christmas tree!

It’s been warm this week, and all over the town, discarded Christmas trees are popping up out of the mounds of melting snow. Very weird. The air being warmer, it smells like Christmas, too. Anyone else experiencing this phenomenon?

Nice!

Haven’t found trees, but did find the blacktop on my driveway yesterday.

I am pretty excited to see dead grass:) Unfortunately, I have 2 lakes in my front yard right now.

We have had 2 on our block stuck upright in the snow since the storms. I did notice this morning two more on my way to work on another street that weren’t there before. I’m sure after tomorrow there will be more. I also noticed this morning how dirty the snow looks! I can’t wait for it to just be gone!!!

My tree is still in the stand (took the decorations off in the beginning of January!) in my sunroom. Haven’t been able to open the doors to get it out yet because the snow has been halfway up the house… 50 degrees today here and 60 tomorrow - with the snow finally melting, hoping to get this ugly tree out of here this weekend!

It is 62 here in PA right now; I have windows open, airing the place out. (My tree is at the curb, but only because we just took it out on Sunday.)

We put an old piece of luggage out for the garbage back on January 2nd; just found out today it was never picked up!!!..

there was a story on the news last night about all the trees piled up on NYC streets that haven’t been picked up yet…

I tried to move our neighbor’s tree out of the parking space in front of our house, but it was still stuck in ice. I refuse to dig out that parking space since they park in front of our house all the time. I figure if they want our space so badly they can dig it out. Supposedly they are going back to picking up trees next week.

We found our older kids’ car. I knew there was a reason the mound on that side of the driveway was so high.

Unfortunately, I found quite a bit of very soggy dog poop. Yuck!

Nope – our tree is still covered. It never made it to the curb; where H left it is where most of the snow from the driveway gets pushed by the snowplow. It may appear soon, though, if this warm weather keeps up.

You are all having a conversation that never even occurred to this Southerner! I had never thought about any of this.

Ha! I win on this one. A couple of days ago, after much of the snow had melted, but it was still getting below freezing at night, I went out earlier in the day and picked up all the dog poop that I could see (it was a lot). Because it was partially frozen, it came up pretty easily. If I waited until now, it would be a mess!

I was walking around in shorts & flip flops today and people thought I was craxy, however my car said it was 67 at 4pm in Newark NJ today. (The real story is I went for a pedicure and though what the heck…)

One year in March I found a newspaper, still in its plastic bag, at the base of our mailbox. It was dated from early January. That was a rough winter too.

I am wondering when we will see the spotlight that we put in the front yard to shine on the wreath and front door during the Chrismas season. It disappeared the night of Dec 26 under the first of several major snowstorms and has not been seen since. Even with all this warmth it may be March till it reappears… we’ve still got 2 feet of snow in the middle of the yard and 3+ feet in the piles along the side of the driveway.

H and I talked about taking the lawn mower to have it worked on while we have all this snow, then realized we can’t get into the shed to get to the lawn mower, and even if we could open the shed door we’d have to carry the lawnmower over all this deep snow from the back yard to the driveway to put it in the truck.

Lafalum–yeah, also those blow up decorations–the ones that are inflated and lit up all night but lie flat on the ground in the daytime (I’m not a fan, but hey, everyone has different taste)–are starting to show up in all their flattened glory on nearby lawns.

I was out measuring houses today in my snowboots and no coat!

I hauled a large graceful birch branch back to the front lawn where I’m staying. Once it was there, I liked it so much I decided to enjoy it indoors, hauled it up two flights of stairs. To enjoy it in the media room. Now I need a saw to get it upright, but even tilted it looks good.

The snow will be gone by morning. Not like '79.

The dog poop is always the depressing part of the thaw…got to wait til it freezes again this weekend before popper scooper duty.

momofthreeboys - well, with the snow and especially the big blizzard, the path shoveled for the dog was somewhat limited, so she had very few options as to where to go, so most of it was in a relatively small area! Which made it easier.
