HGTV fans - Island Hunters

Wow. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been stuck in what feels like perpetual winter here in Ohio, but as a House Hunters fan we have also been mindlessly enjoying Island Hunters.

Can you imagine buying an Island? Where would you want it to be?? Could you live without power to your island (solar only)??

Particularly enjoyed one we watched this morning in the Georgian Bay Area of Ontario - maybe of interest to us because we have a cottage on the same lake -Huron - but hours away in Ontario (and NOTHING even remotely like these places- I always say our place is one step up from camping - haha - but the views, beach and water is priceless!).

Anyone else a fan? What would you love/hate about island living??

Islands are nice places to visit, but I could never live on one. I have to be around civilization.

While I haven’t seen the Georgian Bay, I have been to Algonquin Provincial Park, which is nearby. That area is breathtakingly beautiful. I’ve always wanted to go back there. Thanks for reminding me.

My brother has taken his boat up there - they adore the area. I’m going to have to see how far it is from our cottage - maybe we can’t buy an island , Just visit a few!! ;)

I ave watched the Island Hunters where the goal seems to be to get away from people and civilization - but some of them - including the one this morning - the family basically wanted a place to have family and friends for an overnight or weekend and lots of grilling and outdoor fish fries!! It’s family actually already had a BEAUTIFUL lodge on Georgian Bay but because they rented that one out so much, they “needed” another one! Yikes!!

I saw that one, and I have to say I was glad after a little while to realize it was father/daughter.

I was trying to figure this thing out - they rented out their first island - was that their primary residence or their second home?

What do you do for a living to be able to afford your own island, and be okay with being out there without reliable power? In other words - you aren’t working out there.

It’s interesting to watch, but if I’m going to imagine myself buying an island, my island will be in the Caribbean.

Eyemamom, I understood it that their first island was a second home (not their primary home) and while they used it, it was ending up that it was very rentable and was not available for their use as much since it was booking perhaps more often then they expected. It was IMO a GREAT spot!!

I wondered how big their family was. It appeared that the father was the one coughing up the cash for both island purchases. Maybe the rentals from the 1st was allowing them to finance a second.

I caught part of this show today. Two people from the hospitality industry married and miraculously had enough cash to island shop for a resort they could “make their very own”. What? The skipped the party about them winning the lottery!

Pretty scenery though!
