My boyfriend is training to be a fireman. But before he goes into the academy he wants to go to college (he is a senior in high school). He is a really smart person when it comes to tactile things, but school isn’t his thing. His goal above all else is to be in the department. Most of his fire friends (or as i call them fireboys) are just going to community college but he really wants to get a college experience. Does any one know of any california, not selective schools that offer a fire science major? I hope cc can work its magic and come back with some fantastic responses. I am trying to help as much as I can, his gc is not going to do anything (big public not the greatest area), but i am appying to very different schools

Try Santa Barbara City College. Dorms are shared with UCSB (some anyways) and he can get the college experience. I do not know of any other CC’s in California with dorms which is why I always recommend SBCC, but any place with dorms and thousands of kids is likely to feel collegiate.

Does this list help? I found it by googling up “fire science college california”

I saw some (like Bakersfield) that seem to be the entire college, but it’s too late for me to check all out. Go click on the California links and maybe some will be suitable:

There are several pages of listing in CollegeBoard’s Book of Majors for this, including programs that give degrees in fire protection and safety technology, fire services administration and firefighting/fire science.

You can find this resource in the library - most bookstores have it, too.
