Hi

Hi,

I got into The New School Parsons with $10,000 annually, and UIUC Honors Program both in art major.

I don’t want to sterotype Asians, but since my parents are in asian culture, they want to see what is the highest school I can go from now. I mean that they want me to apply higher ranking colleges than UIUC or Parsons. I don’t know any higher colleges that I might get into. Can anybody comment me where to apply?

my act score is 28, I took five APs, 3.9 GPA and I have a solid EC.

Art schools depends a lot more on your talent and portfolio than test scores and GPA. Your scores are good enough for 99.99% of the colleges for an art major. Parsons is rated #3 or #4 in the world so you are in a great position! Only MIT and RISD are at the same level. If you want make your parents happy with prestige schools that Asian parents know well, apply to Yale, Stanford and MIT - all top 10.

If you notice other thread titles on advice forums, you’ll notice their titles actually point to a question or problem – so users scanning the forum who find the thread interesting or can add a comment will stop and assist. Try not to use “hi” or “help please” but more detailed requests.

To your question, try the SuperMatch tool on the left panel of this page. Good luck

Smith, Connecticut College and Kenyon would each be great for art, generally more selective than UIUC and possibly within your admissions range:

You have almost no chance of getting into the colleges in post 1. No idea why that has been suggested. Many Asian kids go to colleges that aren’t top ten. Your parents need to deal with where you got in.

You have to great options under your belt. I assume you are waiting for some more decisions, unless you only applied to those two colleges. I don’t see any point in adding more reach schools. Your have to rush now to see if your school can send the necessary info before the Christmas break. And you will have to write supplemental essays, etc… Apply to more reach schools if you like, but IMO, you are probably wasting money and time.

The 28 ACT is what might stand in the way of a more prestigious LAC like Smith and Kenyon, although I have to say that Parsons and UIUC are both great schools. Could you take the ACT again and reapply?

The person above who suggested more prestigious art schools is right, that you don’t need GPA and ACT scores as high for top art schools, but they are expensive. Getting FA at art schools is challenging. If you have debt, an art career is even more challenging. Art careers depend on what you can DO not what school you went to. Marketing your work well will make the difference in your career. U of Delaware art and design/ communications while not as well known is a great program that can teach you skills like this. Art Institute of Chicago is a prestigious school. Syracuse has a great art program.

Because the OP has asked for schools 1) strong in art, 2) more selective than her current acceptances and 3) possibly within her range. Though the mentioned colleges represent a potential upper fringe for the OP, suggestions of lesser selectivity would not seem relevant to the question.

ACT middle-range

UIUC: 26-32
Connecticut College: 28-31
Smith: 28-32
Kenyon: 28-32

@merc81 , I specifically said the schools mentioned in post 1. Yale, Stanford and MIT.

Thanks, @Lindagaf, I see my mistake now.
