this is basically a chances kinda thing:
i’m a girl from Long Island, NY and i’m asian. i’m applying early action to caltech b/c i really really really wanna go there, and i just wanted to know if i have a fighting chance b/c my sats arent in the right range; however, i have alot of extra curriculars that i think might help make up for the low scores.

sat I: 700W 580CR 720M (2000)
satIIs: some are ok some are not good
AMC10 winner w/ 102 or 122 i dont remember
rank 7/116
Intel/science research: E. coli environmental stress
George Washington U. Engineering Medal
tons of community service and this great award
math team captain
LI youth orchestra

some other stuff along those lines; i wrote a screenplay and idk what else is ground-breakingly special about me.

what do you think?

why haven’t you listed your satII’s?

because they’re not very good except for math Ic which was ok =

Well if you really want your chances assessed, you should probably post them. It’s kind of like trying to buff up your chances thread post for a better chances rating (although typically it goes "I go to a super-competitive school, my courses are exceptionally hard, I’m super involved in ECs, OMIGOD WHAT DO YOU THINK MY CHANCES ARE?)…which is silly. How you pitch yourself on the actual application is what counts. And without SAT II scores, it’s really hampering other people’s abilities to make snap judgments on how good of a shot you have at any given school.

It seems like you have an interest in science and in applying to Caltech, so apply.

Personally, I’d retake on the SAT and probably also the SAT IIs, particularly if they include sub-700 math and science scores. Also, you should probably be taking Math IIC, not IC.

You can definitely study for these tests, so don’t be too worried–you’ve got a great chance of bringing up your scores.

Not probably – certainly : ). Caltech doesn’t accept the Ic, so you have to take the IIc if you want to apply.
