Hickory Farms Sale

Thanks for the Wolferman link, hmom5. Looks yummy!

Son pronounced the Hickory Farms box “tasty.” Pears to daughter should arrive today.

Yes Bunsen, Wolferman’s has wonderful, quality products.

Let’s keep a tally of CC orders, I’m going in to discuss group rates.

I don’t know about you guys, but it’s long been a way to send my kids a hug at college through food treats. We are all foodies in my house. But I almost never send the same one twice. So I’m constantly on the net looking for the latest best brownie (no one beats Fat Witch) or who sends smoked salmon and real bagels (Zabars) or the best fruit in season.

So if anyone has more ideas, please share!

hmom5, Perhaps some of these suggestions cannot compare with brownies, but here are some other ideas:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/430188-looking-healthy-food-send.html?highlight=healthy+foods</a></p>

don’t know why, but D’s pears did not arrive until today (thought they would arrive last Friday). She called me immediately and said, “Pears??” I told her I’d heard they were really, really good, and she said it was a good surprise, but, “Pears??” Then she put up some away message on her AIM that said, “Pears… I can’t figure you out, mom.” I immediately IMed her and told her to take it down, because her sister’s oranges hadn’t shipped yet, and I didn’t want her clued in that I might have sent her something by reading her sister’s away message.

It was fun to send her something totally unexpected, yet she’s excited about it.

hmom5, thanks! I checked Zabar’s - goodness, that’s good stuff! They also have some stuff on sale, 20% off, mostly cakes and sweets. I will send D something from Wolferman’s!

I had huge luck with sending D local organic apples and Costco satsumas in one of the USPS flat rate boxes (I wrapped each piece of fruit in tissue paper and lined the box with tissues, too). My package completed its cross-country trip in 2 days, as promised, and everything arrived just fine.

OK so I passed on the pears from Harry and David, but Wolfermanns has Harry and David pears 50% off with free shipping, so D will be getting pears for $14.95. You can choose to send now or a future date so they will arrive next month just before a 32 hour university dance marathon. She will need healthy nourishment!

Oh and order the pears SEPARATELY from anything else for the free shipping. And you will get an email with a 20% off coupon! Not sure if it applies to everything…

Thanks for the PM. Harry and David OWNS Wolferman’s! I did not know that. And the coupon for the 20% off your next order is for non-sale items per a little birdiie who PM’d me.

OK… I had to smile. This is the message my daughter put up on my facebook this morning (mind you, this is a kid for whom milk is the ultimate food):

“This morning, I was thirsty, but I’m out of milk, so I ate a pear.”

It made me happy to hear she’s still enjoying the pears (well, and that they’re nice and juicy, too).

If anyone wants to spoil their Valentine (or themselves), Costco online has a box of 12 huge chocolate-covered strawberries for $29.99 - delivered. This is D’s favorite treat!

nice idea BB; however, the navel oranges I ordered from H&D for D1 have not shipped yet. I don’t know what she’d do if a box of oranges and chocolate covered strawberries arrived at the same time.

But the more I’m thinking about it, I like it. Have you had said huge chocolate-covered strawberries from Costco, and can you personally vouch for them?

D2’s birthday is the day after Valentine’s Day, and this is always an issue. But she already got her IPhone in the mail this week (for her birthday), and I hadn’t thought of anything to send her for Valentine’s Day. Maybe she’ll be done with the pears by then.

OK so mixed reports on the Wolfermans gift orders that I sent. D got a gute small package with muffins, scones, hot choc which was good. Sis got 3 mini english muffin bags and 2 were STALE. They do not have expiration dates on them, rather a bunch of secret code letters and numbers, but two bags clearly had 08 on them (stale) and one 09 and not so stale. The Harry and David Pears being sole via the Wolfermans site that went to my mom were BROWN but tasty inside. She said they looked sad but she knew they would taste good. Wolfermans sale was not marked “day old” nor were the pears they were selling for H&D (H&D owns Wolferman’s) labels as old stock. I had a good experience with the Hickory Farms order and will be more likely to buy even at full price. Not so with Wolfermans. Big disappointment. D is still to get her pears next week. Will see how brown hers are.

I have always sent my Ds the H&D Royal Riveria pears while in college at Christmas time. This year, when Harry and David had their sale and I had a $10 gift card they sent with our first order, I sent them a second box. Younger D’s text said it all, “Ahhhh pears!!!”

My kids were both happy with their H&D pears; neither mentioned any browning. Didn’t get any Wolderman’s gift cards or coupons with the HD order, but maybe the kids did in their boxes.

Was perplexed as to why HF got the gift message incomplete & didn’t include it in several of the boxes sent. Couldn’t get good answer from HF. Product was great, especially for the price. W/o sale, shipping is pretty expensive, so was glad all were on sale.
