high acceptance rates/hidden gems/safety schools

I’m a straight B student and am looking for schools similar to NMH and George School that also have an acceptance rate over 40%

Hi @Qwaserd - I am not going to refer to any boarding school as a “safety school” …and I don’t know about acceptance rates of most schools, but I think you should look on the official sites of each school and also check out Boarding School Review. There are threads on CC that you should search such as “Hidden Gems”. One school that we visited and really liked was Millbrook. The school is beautiful and not too large of a student body. The school has its own zoo, great athletics, fantastic arts programs and plenty of community service opportunities. Students have the opportunity to take care of an animal at the zoo, also. We have friends who attended, as did their kids. One thing that the AO told us was that they do not place great emphasis on SSAT scores of applicants. Not sure if you have checked out Tabor Academy, but you should…these are just a couple of schools that are not sometimes overshadowed by schools often mentioned on CC…is there a particular area of the country you are looking for? Is there a particular area of interest that may narrow your search?

Also, you should research non-co-ed schools…

Good luck! :bz

thanks golfgr8! checked out both of those schools and they look very nice! i want a school with a good arts program and am mainly looking for schools in New England and the Mideast

Single sex schools seem to have higher acceptance rates just because most kids prefer co ed. Something to consider…

Check out this list for boarding school acceptance rates.

masters school. It has a good arts program

thanks!

My daughter went to NMH so I think I know what you are seeking. A “hidden gem” school with a higher admit rate that reminded me of NMH is The Dublin School in NH. Their visual artists win awards every year. The Putney School is also very strong in the visual arts. Darrow School in the Berkshires is tiny (approx 30 students to a grade) but has beautiful arts facilities including film, dark room photography and music production, and a good reputation with the art colleges. (Not sure if you are more interested in visual or performing arts). These are all less traditional, more progressive schools with higher acceptance rates than NMH and very friendly kids over all. If you love the arts, they might be your cup of tea although they are all smaller in scale and a little more off beat than NMH or George. Good luck! Oh - and add Suffield to your list too!
