High ACT Score, but low ACT Writing Score.

I recently took the April ACT Exam for the second time and scored a 34 on it.

My score breakdown was as follows:
E: 34 (4 point improvement)
M: 34 (1 point improvement)
R: 33 (3 point improvement)
S: 35 (5 point improvement)

However, I just got the Writing score today and found that it was a 24 (2 point drop). How harshly will this impact colleges’ perceptions of my scores when I apply this fall? Also, is there any way I could send all my scores from this text except for writing, and send my writing score from my previous, September test?

I am going to be applying to colleges soon, so I cannot say from the “already done it” standpoint, but from what I have read online that is not a deal breaker (if you are going into a Math or Science field). That being said if you would like to become an English Major you might want to retake. Also if you did relatlivey well on you can find out if the schools you are applying to superscore the ACT. But best of luck when applying!

Low scores have been very common in the last 6 - 8 months. You aren’t alone.

You can request a rescore. It costs $50 and it’s refunded if your score goes up. And, your score won’t go down.

But honestly, writing scores fluctuate so much that I doubt any school would really care about a 24.

Writing scores aren’t regarded as highly as the main academic section. However, you are welcome to take it again and see if you can improve your writing score. It can’t hurt you.

I just took the April one and I did well, but I was wondering if the writing score matters?
I got E 33 R 33 M 35 Sci 36, but I don’t think that I did that well on writing and my previous core on writing was a 25. I want to apply as a chemical engineering major so I was wondering how much the writing matters.
