high act score in one section of the ACT?

I have a 27 on the ACT (28 super scored), but my highest English section score was a 35. Does that score hold any extra weight at all??

Yes it does. along with the math section.

What do you mean by “extra weight”?

If you’re applying as an English or related major, it’s beneficial to have higher component scores in the English and Reading sections.

If you’re applying to a STEM major, not so much.

This is in comparison to someone with a composite of 28 and 28s in all four sections.

I should say that my reply was based on this conclusion from a study by Bettinger, Evans and Pope:

@RichInPitt Im looking to studies Women’s and gender studies and Pre-Law. I just meant does that have a slight advantage against a student with similar scores in each subject

A 27 (28 superscore) with one 35 in one section implies scores of about 25 in each of the other sections.

If you’re asking does a 27 (28 superscore) with a 35 in one section look better than four 25’s? Then yes. Does it look better than four 27-28 scores? I tend to doubt that it makes much of a difference.
