High Math Scores But Low Critical Reading and Writing

How do colleges view a high SAT math score but mediocre reading and writing scores? I’ve been reading CC for awhile and notice many students strong in science and math with this issue. Are competitive colleges taking the high math score into consideration in the decision making if you’re on the fence?

It depends on the school. Math orientated schools might prefer a higher math scores. Most schools will consider your strength in math, but may look at your other subscores as well.

The most competitive colleges don’t have to settle for imbalanced applicants very often these days. At the top-10 or top-20 schools, you’ll find very, very few students who have major weaknesses in their standardized test scores.
