Hi Pepp - thanks for being a resource. Some of my concerns: transfer students.
Were there many students transferring in?
Social activities: while it may not be popular opinion, but what is the college life like (partying/drinking)? Are there places they frequent often on the weekends? Are they safe, close by? How do they get to and from? A friend who attends say they often go to areas in Greensboro? Is this the norm? What goes on within the campus? Frat parties?
Athletic Events: Basketball seems pretty big, what else is a big thing that everyone tends to do on campus? No football, but I did notice they have some pretty big names come to campus for a concert - that sounded like fun.
Overall Environment: Fun campus, most people find their groups, classes are purposeful.
Job Placement: From your experience, was your daughter out of the norm for her employment? Were other friends who graduated from HPU as fortunate?
Scholarship/Merit: Any such thing?? LOL
Thanks so much for getting this far - after one miserable situation, Iâm making sure we cross our Ts and dot all our Iâs. This has been a tough lesson to learn.
Ugh I wish I saw this sooner, but can offer some insight as I have a 2nd year student!
In my daughterâs class there have been a number of transfer students this yearâŠand it appears that HPU helps acclimate them!
In regards to social, there are an abundance of activities both on and off campus! My daughter and her friends go to Greensboro (20ish minutes away) to shop at Friendly Center (an outdoor mall).
There have been numerous weekend outings to Carowinds, rafting and more! Per my daughter there is an entire activities calendar of events on campus.
HPU does offer merit scholarships - from Presidential scholarships to fellowships.
They have speakers, networking events, and numerous other happenings!
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask anything else!
Thanks so much for the info! We just returned from the Open House. The campus is beautiful, and the added decorations made it even better! I enjoyed hearing about the style of education they provide, as itâs not every day that you have an opportunity to work with someone directly doing what you aspire to do. Officially accepted, now have to figure out if there is any financial aid available to make everything work. My biggest fear is being stuck with a Tier 3+ because Tier 1 & 2 are full. Any thoughts on housing preferences? The kids always seem to know where to stay away from! This is going to be a fast turnaround, but the environment alone should help the transition go smoothly. Thanks for all your help! I love to speak with those who are living it.
Anyone know when EA decisions will come out for High Point?
Hi!
I will say, all of dorms are fantastic!!! Now do the kids of course want the higher tiers - sure! With my daughter we set a clear understanding of what we would put in for housing.
She opted for a tier 2 freshman and this year as well! However, she was expected to assist financially!
Within freshman housing from my understanding the vast majority of dorms are tier 1 or 2.
I do know that the way it works at HPU is that students are placed in dorms based on decision type and then enrollment deposit date.
They really do try to give students their preferences as much as possible.
HPU also provides waitlists to change their housing placement as needed!
Hope this helps!
Good morning! I am so sorry I didnât see this.
It seems that there has been plenty of transfer students coming in over the past few years, which makes sense nased on the growing popularity of the university. The social environment is strong! Greek life is very active, not it is definitely not a necessity for a fun and active social scene. The school has free concerts (Flo-rida was just there), basketball games, baseball, and tons of club sports. There are so many different types of clubs to be involved on, as well.
The do offer merit scholarships and if your student is invited to attend the Presidential Scholarship weekend, you should absolutely go! An interview can equal more funds.
My daughter had a very large group of friends there and they ALL were gainfully employed before graduation. She was not unique in this regard. They are all still thriving and finding success in their chosen fields.
Iâm happy to answer any other questions you might have! Again, my apologies that i didnât see your questions sooner!
Congratulations on being accepted!!! The good news with the housing is that they do guarantee housing for the duration of their time there. That was such a huge plus for us, as often times, finding non campus housing is both a challenge and much more expensive. There is plenty of housing in all tiers, but sometimes you may need to compromise on location to get the tier you may need. HPU does 2 things that make housing a little easierâŠthey allow you to add your name to 6 waitlists if you donât initally get your top pick. They also offer a roomswap feature among students that has proven to be very successful! There is a TON of movement between housing registration and the fall semester starting. The waitlist system absolutely works, you just need to be a little patient. For freshman, the sooner you get your housing deposit in, the earlier you get to select housing. The great news is, there isnât any bad housing at HPU!!! Feel free to reach out with any questions!
Sorry about the typosâŠtrying to do this on my phone and it keeps auto correcting!
If you havenât joined the HPU Parentâs Page on Facebook, I encourage you to do so! Lots of good info here.
I think I read that the EA decision date was 12/15. Hoping for a quicker response though!
Veteran HPU parent here. No âhand holdingâ for us, or any of our very large circle of friends. I assure you, we far from purchased our degree. My daughter was an Interior Design major. Itâs a vigorous program that requires quite a bit from the students. My daughter worked hard to secure two valuable internships which both led to job offers her spring semester prior to graduation. She accepted one of those offers and is working on multi million dollar projects with a highly regarded design firm. Without the education and hands on experience she got at HPU, she absolutely would not be successful and thriving in her field.
As for the housing, there are actually 7 tiers. The housing is fantastic, regardless of tier. Obviously the higher tiers allow for single rooms and even single living spaces and bathrooms. The great thing about HPU is that they guarantee housing for all students, even graduate students. Not many campusus offer this, so definitely a perk, especially with such nice dorms to choose from. Can it be expensive? Yep. So is trying to secure off campus housing at other universities that donât offer housing for their upperclassmen.
I read that date as well. 12/15.
Decision is on the portal. No email came though.
Decision is on the portal. No email though
Just got an EA acceptance email, but no link to the financial piece. Do they send that separately?
log into portal and click on on âwe have some extraordinary newsâ box. letter and financial package is in that link.
The email had info about fellowship money and invite to scholars weekend
For my daughter the financial piece was on the letter with acceptance.
I couldnât locate the letter the first time around- I see it now!
