We got that too but it is very confusing. Do they pay for the travel or hotel for this weekend?
No colleges do not. This is something we budgeted for in regards to various weekends.
Presidential Weekend is one of the most amazing events! Congratulations on your student being invited!
Anyone entering in the Spring? Accepted as a transfer and entering Spring 24. Still donât have housing placement - but does anyone have suggestions on what a nice area is for transfer students (sophomore)?
My daughter and I visited High Point this past fall. Yes it was a lot to take in because it was different from any other school we visited. This school has so much good going on and all people can do is talk about it being for rich white kids and cultish. Yes, there are many students that come from hard working families. Student whoâs parents work everyday to provide for their families. Whatâs wrong with that? This is one reason my daughter is looking at High Point she wants a good job and wants to be productive. High Point has zero tolerance for negative things about other people ethnicity or religion is another reason why way more good about this university than bad. Many of the threads concerning Highpoint come for people who havenât visited or do not know about the many positive changes that have been made over the last ten years. I understand how many can be somewhat unsure because of the great amenities and abundance when many schools are lacking. The University may not be for everyone. My two older sons went to great schools. One attended The University of Missouri, and the other University of Miami in Oxford Ohio. Both schools great schools.
Needing to add - High Point values all students regardless of their race, religion, or personal preferances. Honestly, hearing people talk negatively about a university trying to provide a positive experience and environment for all the students going there doesnât make sense. The school has grown, improved, and provides excellent academic and sports programs for its students. Yes, some students will have fancier housing opportunities than others, but that is the case at every school. I think High Point is doing a lot of things right. My daughter attends one of the top academically rigorous high schools in our state. She is an outstanding student. We do not doubt that she will receive an excellent education from High Point.
We look forward to her having great amenities, small classroom size, and an excellent education. This school checked what our daughter was looking for - faith/religion, welcomes all people, and doesnât justify or promote hate.
Good luck to your student.
The kid I know who went to High Point was half white, but also Native, black and a few other things mixed in there. His parents are not wealthy (at all). He had an athletic scholarships, and they even extended it for his 5th year because of covid. I
He is doing well in sports marketing.
No dog in this fight, but I had to question HPUâs âlife skills and career focusâ when I recently saw the worst LinkedIn page/resume Iâve ever encountered and it was a recent HPU grad. Who graduated with honors.
All of this! We are a single parent family, and there is a perception of what HPU is despite people never setting foot on campus, or truly learning what the university stands for! Glad you enjoyed your time on campus!
So 1 student out of 6000 plus has a poorly written LinkedIn, and that sets the criteria for a school? Whatâs the saying, âYou can lead a horse to water, but you canât make them drink itâŠâ
See Korri- this is what confuses people.
Folks on an anonymous message board criticize a college- letâs call it Colgate or Bucknell-- for having a âdrinking cultureâ. Then parents who are either alums or have kids there point out all the things there are to do that donât involve booze- outdoor clubs, volunteer organizations, the performing arts, etc.
They donât get defensive or hostile- not pointing a finger at you, but at some of the other HPU parents who have posted here-- and accuse them of having âan agendaâ or of hating America or âwhatâs wrong with steak in the dining hallsâ kinds of questions.
Itâs just a discussion. Perception- a school is filled with the future members of alcoholics anonymous. And then reality from parents who know- yes there is drinking among a certain group of kids, but hundreds of students donât drink at all and still have active social lives. A discussion- like you get on an anonymous message board.
Somehow the HPU parents immediately go into crisis mode. If your kid is happy- terrific. If you are happy-- terrific. You can have a balanced discussion (HPU is great if you are looking for XYZ, and is not so great if you are looking for ABC) and then folks would pretty much ignore HPU unless their kid was considering it.
Itâs the over-reaction that provokes the feeling of âwhat the heck triggered that?â
The reason I pointed it out is because HPU hypes up its career center and that includes resume writing. The way this resume was written looks like the student received very poor advice. The internships were nothing special (not good at all), but the way they were presented was even worse. Iâd expect better from any career advisor. This is a motivated honors student, not a student that wouldnât be taking advice. So, no, I am not holding up one student, but a âfinal productâ that is being presented.
Three years after graduation the student is still waitressing. I think that says something about her resume.
Ever considered that maybe the student didnât utilize the resources available to them? Just because itâs offered doesnât mean all students are motivated to use the resources available.
Letâs move on please. Expressing an opinion is allowed; debating the opinion is not
Right! Thereâs underachievers at every school.
As long as the families are happy ( and they seem to be) that is all that is relevant. I am quite sure that every single college in the US (except the service academies) has waitstaff in their young alumni body
