Oh, I understood what he was thinking.

I realized I hadn’t communicated well in the OP, anyway. It sounded like I couldn’t get him to workout cuz I said I couldn’t get him to go to the gym.

I used to play tennis, but I killed my elbow, for some reason. I never thought i would be an endurance “athlete” (I say this with a grain of salt, nowhere near the caliber MOWC chats about.) I finish middle of the pack on 5ks and 10ks.

And, H isn’t going to be in any races. He runs in tennis shoes, the old fashioned canvas converse. But, he played hockey in college and the deal was he didn’t get to be the fat ex-athlete. You know the one, the one Interesteddad is talking about.

So, yeah, I actually “know” that guy, but I’m not married to him. phew!

I think the actual injury rate was 66% of all reader respondants to the RunnersWorld survey had been injured in 2009. My guess is that the readership encompasses a wide range of running expertise, but they are most fairly serious, consistent runners, although it could be skewed upwards by newly serious, consistent runners!

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-285--13413-0,00.html

Walking is not without repetitive impact risk; however, it is low impact compared to running. The impacts from running are multiples of bodyweight. Imagine doing 13,500 plyometric box jumps in a week.

Running has impact stress but have you ever practiced taking jump shots for half an hour? How about turnaround jumpers? You get to torque your knees going up and then have a high-impact landing. There are a lot of sports that place incredible twisting forces on the knee joint that can do considerable damage to the knees and ankles too.

I recall a guy that became a VP at our company coming in Monday morning on crutches. I asked him about it and he said that he was on a skiing trip. He said that he slipped on the ice in the parking lot.

My last major injury (outside of the repetitive strain types) was in diving for a tennis ball. Not the brightest thing to do at my age but I’m a competitive person in some sports.
