Hi, our son is a junior in high school and has taken college classes as part of a concurrent college program. He wanted to take college technical calculus this spring as his college course but does not seem quite ready for it. Do you feel he is better off taking college business calculus or his High School AP Calculus? Which would prepare him better if he eventually takes regular fcalculus in college? He is thinking business when he goes to college, but could switch to something more technical before he gets there. So, do you think college business calc would provide a better foundation than High School AP Calc, even if he ends up taking technical calculus when he gets to college?

From my experience, AP Calculus is harder than Business Calculus. AP Calculus is more theoretical and deals with some extra stuff that business calculus ignores.

Also, AP Calculus (if he gets a 5 on the AP BC test) gives him more credits than a college calculus course. It’s easy to transfer credits using the AP system, however, some universities might not accept credits from a small college.

He should take AP Calculus.

Thanks. The credits would actually be from Penn State. He is just so ready to be done with High School, so thats why he started taking some college classes instead of High School classes. He seemed in over his head with the tech calculus so is looking to switch to business calculus tomorrow. But, if it is not a good idea, maybe he should do something else.
