Those are good ones…and canada lol my mom would so NOT go for that…ive just barely gotten her to allow me to even apply (hopefully ed) to duke which is only ten hrs away…

Safeties: UCSB, UCD, Cal Poly SLO.

Places I’m applying in hopes of full rides: Northeastern, Pitt, Lewis and Clark, Santa Clara, and perhaps even U of Alabama if I am desperate enough.

Ugh i wish i liked northeastern more…i saw it when my brother was looking at schools two yrs ago and i hated it otherwise itd be a safety for me too

Can Northeastern really be considered a safety with a 38% acceptance rate? Or is it more of a low match?

i guess not an extremely safe safety? but compared to ivies and top schools with ~15% or less acceptance rates its a little less nerve wracking to hear back from i could imagine

lol, the worst is still to come for you guys, hahaha have fun though

I mean, I’m well above northeastern’s sat and gpa. Also I’m 99% sure I’ll be NMSF and they love those.

@seahawks I can’t. Ugh.

@seahawks Your post makes me nervous ^.^ lmao

The D-plan is good if you’re okay not always being home at the same time as some of your local friends. But yes, it’s awesome for internships. Sophomore summer is also apparently amazing. You really should talk to someone about the Greek life. It definitely has its positives, you just need to be educated that it can sometimes not be a smooth situation.

Oh and you HAVE to visit. It’s so so so amazing. I fell in love. The library is amazing (nerd.) and it just has such a beautiful vibe. Try to go on a nice sunny day if you get the chance. NH is chill…but maybe too chill at times? There isn’t a whole lot to do, so you just have to keep that in mind. It’s no Harvard Square.

And the whole I-Bankers thing turns me off a tad. My sister was actually an econ major at one point but got weeded out fast. It’s a great program but HARD. The whole corporate, competitive vibe turns me off, but some people do like it. I mean, at the same time, my sister is really chill and laid-back and didn’t feel out of place in the uber-intense environment.

@msteiny1212 thanks for the reply! Yeah I’m good with not always being home at the same time as my friends. I mean it kinda sucks but I’m sure I’ll have more than one friend and all so as long as I have SOME at the school at all times I will be fine.

Yeahhhhh Greek life. Hmm I enjoy parties, I like the idea of the sisterhood, frat parties are awesome, I am scared of rushing, super intense frats are also scary, I don’t want it to take over my life because I am also a freakishly competitive person WHO MUST SUCCEED AT ALL COSTS. Ya know?

AaAaaaghghhhhg beauty of library is a major factor in my college search because I assume that I will be spending many, many hours there.

Yeah NH might not have that much to do but I figure I’ll be pretty busy with college n’ parties n’ stuff so I think I’ll be okay. Also, I’m assuming that most of my internships will be in cities, so it’s not like I’ll be in rural NH the WHOLE year. Plus college gets that whole month off in winter. So I’ll really only be there for like 8 months out of the year. 8 months in a beautiful, secluded forest sounds great to me and then I have the other 4 to get my fill of cities and civilization and whatnot.

ooohhh god effin dammit. First negative I have come across. I DO NOT WANT TO BE WEEDED OUT. That was one of my top factors in choosing a college: collaborative, not competitive. ■■■.

I really really wish I was born in the US, then I could be NMSF and I could do stuff like you all do.
That was me ranting, now the sane me:
I will be applying to 14 schools. 2 EA and 1 ED. Hope to get into some good schools. :)

PS: Guys, please post stats along with college lists, we need to find the over achievers here ;)

Aww Mrinal I’m sorry But HEY you’ll be here soon enough!!

Where are you applying ED and EA?

Basic stats: 4.0 uw, 4.2 w, prez of red cross club, treasurer of Leo club & will be prez next yr, math tutor at a national company, piano, teach piano to lil kids, intern at a soy/nutrition company, volunteer at convalescent hospital. Also some summer stuff/ CTY Genetics, did a research internship in Thailand last summer, hoping to do something cool this summer but we shall see if any of these programs take me.

Oh also congressional gold medal, NMSF, and NHRP.

I’m really not that impressive. Oh 2190 SAT but I’m taking the ACT instead because I’m better at it. STAY TUNED SAT subject tests to come in like a month loolllzzz.

Will post my stats soon enough…once I get this visa interview out of the way
I am a part of summer@brown, so I will be be coming to the States in 61 days ;)

@leah: where do you live btw??

People don’t get 4.0s at my school. It hasn’t happened - ever - and we’ve sent people to all the top schools. I have something like a 3.93 UW (not official) and I’ll probably end up with a 4.34/39 W.

That is, if I get rid of my current crappalicious grades.

I’m retaking the SAT so no need for y’all to know how awfully I did. Aiming for 2350+, but I’ll be content if I break 2300.

Awesome ECs.

So I’m basically king of the world if ya know what I mean, 5.0/24 hundo, cured cancer several times. Dat’s how I role.

I was posting my stats when I saw the 2 posts above me and I deleted my post…I have no chance with the stats I have against you all…

haha, mrinal, don’t get intimidated by dfree, he’s not exactly “the king of the world”. And keep in mind that we’re a community of over-achievers and we’re all impressive - but we’re, you know, the 1 percent.

Guys, be careful when you say that Canada is “cheaper”. Our education system is hard to explain, but basically, there’s no such thing as a “private” university in Canada. Our education is partially subsidized by our federal government, which is why it’s so cheap in comparison to almost any US school. However, that doesn’t mean international students get to catch a break, too. Take Mount Allison, for example - the top liberal arts uni in Canada. Canadian students can expect to pay about 19,500 dollars a year to attend. International students, however, pay a much higher tuition, and they can expect to pay about 28,000 a year to attend. I know that compared to most US universities, this is a bargain, but caveat emptor anyway.

Anyway, my stats. I’m Canadian (as you might have gathered, haha), so my school doesn’t calculate GPA. However, I’m definitely top 10% of my class and I would definitely have over a 4.0 W if I did know my GPA, thanks to my pre-AP track courses. Unfortunately at my school, you can only take the “real” AP courses (with the AP exam and everything) in grade 12, so everything I’ve taken up to this point is essentially a glorified Honours course. 2000 SAT on my first try this past January (took it during exam week, ick!) - retaking in May and possibly in September and hoping to bring it up to a 2200. Will be certified bilingual by the government of Canada in English/French next year, currently in France on exchange. Will be Debate Team and Reach for the Top Team president next year. Currently starting a Gay-Straight Alliance at my Catholic high school, will probably be vice-president or treasurer next year when it really gets going. Volunteer Kindermusik teacher at a local performing arts studio. Extensive voice/dance/acting experience. Will probably be acting in AND assistant music directing Fiddler on the Roof at my school next year.

I’m not Ivy material, for sure. However, I have good enough academic stats to get me good merit aid and a nice handful of focused ECs to make me a diverse enough applicant pretty much anywhere I’m applying. All I really want is to be an Elon Music Theatre major and Honours Fellow.

Thanks for the correction! Hope I didn’t mislead anyone.

Honestly, I’ll have to talk to my sister more about this. She loved a lot of her classes but yeah, she did change her major three times. I dunno if it’s her or the school haha, but probably a mixture of both. I just remember her being really intimidated by the econ class. It may be a con, but I wouldn’t consider it a dealbreaker because it can probably vary a lot.

So how are you guys feeling about SAT II’s? Bleh
