High School Class of 2014

@studious exams for me too! WOOOO! I got A’s on bio and health… Only French, geometry, and world 2 left… I don’t have to take the English final because I have the highest average in the class  finals haven’t been too bad so far though…

Ahh, so good to be out of school. Once again I gloat. Feel free to mock my being back in school once August comes around. We go back August 8th. I bet you did fine on World History, @Studious. I made a 100 on mine easily, but I’m not sure how comparable the courses are.

Evan, does your teacher arbitrarily and harshly grade every single subjective performance? Haha he’s a tough teacher. Half the class got Cs or lower.

Yay for class of 2014!

This last year (freshman schedule) I didn’t take any AP’s:

Advanced Writing Communications/English Literature (integrated)
Biology
German 1
Pre-Calculus
Chemistry
Arabic 4
Argumentation and Logic
Geology

My schedule for this next year (sophomore year):

AP English Language and Composition
Introduction to Calculus
German II
AP Comparative Government and Politics
Advanced Arabic
Public Speaking (at local CC)
AP World History
Physics

My schedule is still tentative and I might change some stuff but I like it overall!

We don’t get to take AP’s at our school until Junior year. The only exception used to be AP World, which I was supposed to take this year and next year, but unfortunately they cut that class. Also, we they just put in the Honors option for freshman and sophomore year. All that said here is my schedule

Humanities Research
Chem Honors
Algebra 2 Honors
English Honors
Global 10 Honors
Spanish 3 (no honors option)
Band
Health/PE (requirement)

The “regular” math/science for our school in 10th grade is Geometry and Biology.

AP European History
Honors Chemistry
Honors Biology
Honors English II
Honors French II
Honors Spanish III
Honors Algebra II
Band (Oboe)

These are the hardest classes we can take as a Soph, Going for Full IB next year though!

Honors English II.
Honors World History.
Honors Algebra 2/Trig.
AP Physics.
Spanish 3.
Audition only Drama.

AP Classes for History and English don’t start until Junior year, unfortunately. Anyone have junior year planned?

@franzferdinand–I do, but it is tentative to say the least. It would be:

AP Lang. & Comp
APUSH (mandatory after taking AP Euro)
AP Phys. B
Honors Pre-Cal
Latin III Honors
Newspaper
Business Technology Applications (Have to take this if I want an Advanced Diploma)

I might change Newspaper for Spanish I.

Yes, I have my Junior planed, because of the IB (:

AP/IB English Language (HL)
Math SL 1 (Pre-Calc)
IB Bio (HL)
AP/IB American History (HL)
Honors French III
IB Spanish IV (SL)
IB Philosophy (SL)
Band

My junior year is already planned too, pretty much. Because at my school, you need to submit a plan to get P.E credits waived.

Ap English III.
APUSH.
Honors Pre-Calc.
Honors Chem.
Drama (audition only class).
Newspaper.

I want to take an academic course instead of doing Newspaper, but nothing really appears to me. My school offers really lame classes.

Finally, people taking the same math courses as me at the same time as me. Also, @franzferdinand, I saw your post on the “10 Artists On Your iPod” thread, and I liked a lot of your stuff.

@Studious (Oh, yeah, your name is Mason. Haha, I forgot that I had asked you)–Nope…Good luck! :P

Random question: how seriously have you guys looked at colleges so far? Obviously, you’re on this site. And ideas of what you want are apt to change. I’m just curious.

@evanh14: thank you very much!

@franz–No Problem. To answer your question, I have looked somewhat seriously. I have done virtual tours and whatnot, because going to tour campuses in my freshman year would be overkill. I have had many different ideas of where I want to go from Yale, to Northeastern, to Northwestern, to Vandy, to Brown.

@Franz–I have too. Thinking about linguistics (applied)… I’m a nerd for languages,

My name is Bayley, by the way.

@evanh14: I’ve been looking at Brown, too. My research is just starting, but from everything I’ve read, it just seems perfect. Especially the liberal/laid back/independent vibe it seems to give off. The only thing I dislike about it is how it’s not a big city, like where I am close to. Though researching it has made me realize that I really need to up my game if I want to get in. Everything about Brown just seems so perfect. Even the indie/hippie type people who supposedly attend.

@Bayley (If you don’t mind me addressing you that way while posting.)–Brown would be amazing; I just doubt my chances of getting in there. I seem to underestimate myself too much, but when peers are making straight 100s, and you’re just getting the A’s, then it’s hard not to. I’m sort of settling for a state university; being from Alabama, neither are too great (except Auburn is good if you wanna go into forestry [which I don’t]). It would mean almost guaranteed admission, good scholarships, and as little debt as possible before going into dental school, which is what I plan to do. To quote my aunt’s friend hours prior to her graduation from her Prosthodontics residency, tell me your hopes and dreams.

@evanh14: I have always wanted to go to some big name university. Simply because my dad never went to college, and since a young age, I was put into “magnet” type programs. And my grandmother, who is quite practical, expressed doubt when I said I wanted Ivy League. I was eleven. So it’s kind of a pride thing. But I also crave to be surrounded by people somewhat like minded. Brown… seems perfect. In absolutely every way. I don’t know what major, but I want to do something involving Psychology/English/Environmental Science/Political Science. A humanity type class, or perhaps science. Brown may not have the best programs for these, but it seems like I’d fit in there the most out of any school I’ve researched. Brown just seems so… right. Even if it wasn’t an Ivy League, I would still want to attend.

Like you, I doubt my abilities to get in. Plus, I might not be able to pay it and I am wary of too much debt post college. I expect some, but I just don’t want to be swimming in it. If not, I’ll probably end up at an in school state. University of Washington, because I would go for free pretty much.

I wish you luck, though! With hard work it is hard to tell what may happen.

@Bayley–University of Washington is still a good school. If I am not mistaken, it is one of the “public ivies”. Well, yeah, there is no telling at this point. Best luck to you, as well, and hey, maybe one day we’ll have a class together at Brown. :p
