High School Class of 2014

My school offers Japanese, German, ASL, French, and Spanish. Spanish 5 is an AP class. We also have AP Japanese, I think. Also for the fifth year.

We have French, Spanish, Latin, and German. I, II, III (honours), and IV (AP)

We have Spanish (I, II, III H, IV H, IB AbInitio, IB SL, IB HL 1, IB HL 2), French (I, II, III H, IV H, IB B SL, IB B HL I, IB B HL II) and Latin (I, II)

What do y’all think about reserve military service, ROTC scholarships, and military service in general?

Here’s my schedule this Fall:

H English 10
H Spanish 4
AP NSL
Algorithm/Data Structures
Magnet Precalc C/Analysis A
ADV Sci Earth & Spaces Sciences/Bio
Magnet Principles of Engineering
Ceramics/Sculpture 1

Wish I could take more AP’s, but the magnet school I attend has restrictions.

Extracurrics:
-Debate
-Hoping to make Tennis
-Considering Robotics

Also thinking about participating in envirothon…

@nwpnerd I’m all for people serving their country. And if you’re into ROTC, go for it. It’s definitely a sure fire way to get things done, and going into the military will help you later in your career. Although, I’m pro-peace and extremely, extremely against war. Though I support America’s troops. My dad is begging me to join JROTC and go into the service so I’ll definitely be able to pay for college, but there is no way I’d do it.

CLASS OF '14!!!:D

Well my school goes by trimesters so we get 15 classes a year which is kinda weird. But I am so ****ED at myself because I did HORRIBLY and I can say ‘well I missed a lot of school because of health issues’ which is the truth but honestly if I didn’t want to get behind in my classes I could’ve done better. I always got A’s and some B’s but then this freshmen year I think my GPA was a high 2 or low 3 -_- ANYWAY!!
My classes for sophomore year are:
-3 tri’s of AP World History(the only offered AP class for sophomores which is LAME!)
-3 tri’s of Honors Algebra 3 (thank god geometry is over!!)
-2 tri’s of Honors English
-2 tri’s of Honors Biology
-1 tri of Honors Physics (I was told if I retake I will get my old grade knocked off my GPA)
-2 tri’s of debate & speech (it is a mandatory class if you want to be in the club)
-1 tri of health
-1 tri of Basic Law & Ethics

Extracurriculars: Debate
Gonna try these: S.E.A.C. (student enviornmental action coalition)
S.A.D.D./I.D.F.Y. (students against destructive decisions/Idaho drug free youth)
Jr. Civitan & maybe Key Club

I was in debate & football last year but I decided not to do football this year because I won’t have enough time and I’d rather be in more clubs than to be in just football. So yeah!!

For the PSAT question I’m going to take it sophomore & junior year. Get all the practice I can get. I mean you might as well right? Haha

Salutations, fellow CCers. I’m glad I finally found a cluster of people that are the same age as me! Side note: I have a feeling college admissions will be a ***** for our year. :/

Located in a once small but now growing (exponentially) public school. We’ve only been open for 5 years. The only memorable things that came out of our school was a student-teacher affair and a Harvard admission. Exciting! /s

Here’s my Freshman schedule:

Alg II Honors
Bio Honors
AP World History (First AP class ever offered to Freshman, I was part of the first group. Only 15 kids my year.)
English 9 Honors
Gym/Health (I hate how our gym and health is scheduled. We switch off every 2 weeks, which is rather infuriating.)
French I

My Sophomore/Fall Schedule (In no known order):

Geometry Honors (One more infuriating thing: My school district switches Geo and Algebra II only for the Honors kids. 'Tis one reason why so many kids failed Algebra II.)
AP US History
Chemistry Honors
English 10 Honors
French II Honors
Drivers Ed/Gym

Rather bland, I know. What can I say? I live in a town with “plain” in its name. Also, no IB programs at all in my area. I’ve always been intrigued by the IB program.

I’m a sole founder of one club, and co-founder of another. Philosophy Club & Computer Science Club, respectively. I also started an e-cycling (recycling of old electronics) drive for our school, which is hosted by the CS club. Hopefully it’ll become a school tradition, due to the surprisingly high turn out.

Extracurricular (besides the clubs mentioned): Math Team, Chess Team, Scholastic Bowl, Boy’s JV Swim Team (Never Again!), I volunteer time-to-time for a mainly India-centric humanitarian society, been playing guitar classically (and covering other, more creative bands in my free time. Playing Radiohead on an acoustic is fun) for around 8 years now. Won the Sophomore Class President election, so that’ll be added in the fall.

I know I’m late for this thread, but I’ve scoured these forums for a bit and I just noticed the High School Life topic. Hopefully, we’ll get to know each other and create a sort of Class of 2014 CC Club. :P

@franzferdinand so, should I do it? Or, being an overachiever and a somewhat-pro-gun-control liberal, should I not?

Welcome, anaychi! From your post, you seem like a great person. And I agree–admissions will suck for us. :(

A few questions for you: How did you perform academically in your first year? Also, what are your dream schools?

I (thankfully) got straight A’s both semesters during my freshman year. Due to the way my school calculates weighted GPA’s, the addition of AP World History gave me and only a handful of others (as I said, it’s a small class) a rank of numero uno (out of 480+, I think). As for my dream schools, I’ve always wanted to go to Stanford. Right now, that’s probably my number one choice, but here’s a list of other schools I would also love to apply to, in no particular order: UC Berkley, Columbia, UChicago (It’s the only school I’d consider staying in Illinois for), Harvard, Brown. I’m still open and exploring a lot of other schools.

@nwpnerd If you do it, I’d definitely consider doing the reserves. If you end up going into the service, then you will also have the military colleges open, which are great schools.

How did everyone else do academically? I’m curious. Also, where are you guys wanting to apply? You obviously have an idea if you’re here.

I don’t get my next years schedule until september, however I know what classes I will go to. They are all honors or AP. 10th grade.

AP World History (I had this course since 9th grade, it’s a 2 year course so I have to take it 10th grade, but it’s AP)
Symphonic Band
Algebra II/Trig (Honors)
English 10 (Honors, but they give AP english to juniors)
Spanish II
Chemistry (Honors)
Phys Ed

My school gives out most AP’s starting Junior year. Only the lucky freshmens get AP World History from the start (which was me). In our school AP WH is a 2 year course.

Also average is 99.85% (second semester grade)
97.58% (First Semester Grade)
9th grade.

NYC

Do any of the schools you guys attend offer IB?

Mine doesn’t. Only AP classes, which are apparently considered to be a joke.

@franz

My school doesn’t offer IB. Only AP courses, only to juniors and seniors (AP World History is the only one given to freshmens and sophomores).

Colleges dont penalize you in any way though. Or put you in comparison to a person with IB if your school doesnt have IB classes.

@nothingto The AP World thing is rather odd. I don’t know anyone else who’s had to take it as a 2 year course. Is there any background info on that from your school?

Hey all! Hopefully this doesn’t sound dumb, but what exactly are IB classes? Also, how do you enroll in AP classes- is it a self study kind of deal?

Here’s a question: What are you guys doing currently this summer? Pre-College programs? Summer Camp? Wandering aimlessly around your house while watching reruns of That 70’s Show?

I’ve been volunteering around, taking a few online classes and playing a lot of soccer. Recently my team has done a few college recruiting tournaments, but it still seems so early to have to think about that! Any other athletes hoping to get recruited?
