High School Class of 2014

lol. How much should my score increase year-over-year?

I’m taking it this year as a sophmore, although I’m probably not gonna do so good in the math section because I’ve heard it has a lot of trig in it, and I wouldnt have learned enough in the beginning of the year.
Any tips though to get past that low math score?

@starr–I guess doing some test prep on your own, and learning on your own.

I know that last year, the highest two sophomore PSAT scores at my school were a 235 and a 212.

now i feel dumb. haha

Someone helppp I cant decide between AP biology or AP world for next year! I reallyy dont wanna take two APs!

What’s your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is probably the fact that I don’t have to really put forth any effort to keep my gpa around a 3.8. I could easily take a rigorous course load, keep my GPA at around that level, and go to my state university. But I want more than that.

@tay AP Bio is a LOT of memorization, I’m taking it along with ap euro this coming school year, I know that AP Euro wont be so bad since I have a good teacher, but ap bio is going to be hell considering the teacher doesnt teach what so ever. If it were me I would suck it up, and just take both like I am this year. But If I had to choose I would choose AP World over AP Bio in a heartbeat

@Franz: I meant subject. haha

I took the PSAT last year and I got a 160ish, there were a lot of underlying circumstances(the beginning of my freshman year was all doctor visits) when I took it, and I didn’t study. (got to school one day and surprise!)

Is everyone out of school now?! I got out like an hour ago! Wooooo

Hey… Really late :stuck_out_tongue:

So… My course load is quite odd compared to you guys…
My school does a dual IGCSE-MYP thing in freshman and sophomore and full IBDP in junior and senior.

My courses in freshman and sophomore is
-igcse extended math (96%)
-igcse English lit 94%
-igcse eng lang 96%
-igcse computer studies 84%
-igcse French ~60%… it’s like my worst subject… Dreading IB French SL
-Igcse double award sci(physics, chem bio). Separate sciences aren’t offered at my school :frowning: 32/34 in bio, 30/33 physics and 27/33 chem :frowning:
-MYP Music. Play the guitar, drums, bass guitar, alto sax, trumpet, piano in descending order of goodness and played in skl band(when it existed)
7/7 or A+
-igcse geography… Only picked it cos there was no option for economics and I hate history… 89%
-PE:( borderline passing this…
-MYP ICT(computers) 7/7 or A+
-MYP Design Tech 7/7 or A+
-take part in the school rockbands and talent shows… Biannually only though…
-take part in interschool science Olympiads and fairs… Come 3rd twice… And the whole Olympiad system at my skl is crappy… Theres no proper team and we only get to know of teams 2 days before the quizzes :frowning:
-personal project
Planned IB subjects
-Bio HL
-Chem HL
-Math HL
-Eco HL
-French B SL
-English A SL
Plus ToK, CAS and EE…

Come 2nd or 3rd overall in class of 45 (small private skl in india) :p

Starr8nn, the trig featured in the PSAT is very basic. Most of the time, it focuses on the 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangle rules. If you study up on those, your score could jump a good amount!

Nwpnerd, if you study, you could see anywhere from 10 to 50 points of increase. Maybe more. Good luck!

@nwpnerd i honestly dont knoww, I wanna say im better at science but im also good at writing essays and im only gonna be a sophomore so I dont wanna overload myself.
@starr8nn thanks! yeah the only reason im even debating it is because im probably gonna major in science or become a doctor and i wont have another chance to take AP biology.

For next year:

AP Human Geography

Pre IB Spanish II

AP English Language and Composition

AP US Government and Politics

AP Physics B

Pre IB Chemistry

AP Calculus AB

^Impressive course load. I wish sophomores at our school had that kind of flexibility…

A side note: Report cards came today! I’m so happy with the results!

Our school’s final grades are due today. Report cards should arrive Monday/Tuesday.

@StudiousMaximus: I agree. I wish AP classes were available earlier. Honors Biology, while required more memorization and reading, was one of my easiest classes this year. At my school, you can’t take AP Chem or Bio without regular/honors first. So lame.

What languages are offered at your school?

Spanish and French (both I, II, III, IV, and AP)

I took two AP exams this year…

Senior14, do you live in southern florida?

Your sophomore schedule is the exact same as the curriculum for my school and I’m curious.

@Franz: Exactly! It sucks that I can’t go straight to AP.

For languages, my school offers French, Spanish, Latin, and German through AP. American Sign Language is also offered, but for only three levels.
