It’s advanced Precalculus with Calculus concepts. The GC at our school says it’s the fastest paced math course in the building.

@Studious: WOW…Wish I had those kind of classes

My school has 1 month yet to start. I am anxious because I actually want to learn, and prove my worth in grades. I am planning to get 100+ both semesters weighted average. With 97+ unweighted. Freshmen year, my GPA was 97.56 (first semester) and 99.85% (second).

AP World is easy, trust me. I took it freshmen. I cant wait for Physics, Calculus and AP biology. But most of the AP’s are only given Junior/Senior year… Freshmens/Sophomores only have AP World History. I hate my school.

@StudiousMaximus

So far I like the style of the book. It is ingenious so far. But I might be wrong as I go. I wish Chung gave some sort of access where we know the typos given.

My school only allows AP World as well, with some people getting an exception to take AP Bio.

I hope my Chem class will be good. There’s one good teacher and one awful one. Crossing my fingers…

EDIT: The typos don’t really inhibit your comprehension of the material. However, it seems there’s a really blatant typo in the solution of problem 4 in tip 30. Also, I got 799 as my answer, but the choices only include 800 and 798. I really don’t think my math is wrong, either. Other than a few errors, though, it’s a great book.

Chemistry should be interesting indeed. However I am afraid I won’t memorize all the chemicals :(

There is so much to memorize, it’s pretty intimidating.

But I am planning my own game plan. I agreed with myself that I will self-study about 50% of the things in Chemistry, while the other 50% is from school.

Plus the regents isn’t a good thing either :/

Studious and nothingto, at least you all can take APs early. My school only offers Calc AB, Stats, English Lit, and US History. My school has no money to offer any of the science ones. But, you if do an AP at my school, you can’t take it yearlong and have to do half Honors, half AP to take the test. AP scores are really low at my school on top of it and the administrators say that they are better than doing AP yearlong, even though they haven’t tried that in about 8 years.

For classes, I’m really excited for almost everything. Except for maybe H Algebra II/Trig. My audition theatre class that puts the plays together will be great. Same with AP Physics and H World History. Having a challenge in school, for once, will be nice.

I really want my schedule, I’ll probably get it around the 20th of next month. Apparently, the most difficult courses in our school are Honors World History and Honors English II if you’ve got certain teachers. Homework load (per night) if you had both of the difficult teachers was around three hours, just for two classes. They also are apparently two of the best teachers our school has.

The only thing I don’t look forward to is waking up at 5:30 in the morning.

@nothingto: I talked to my chemistry teacher before school ended and he says that it isn’t that hard. He only tests the common ones and it was the same way for him in high school and he went to a pretty tough private school. Since he is new, he is changing the format from lecture style to more of a research based class.

@evanb1996

Don’t worry. All that matters really is College, and they will not penalize you. However, I do feel for you. In my high school, as a Junior/Senior, you can only take a maximum of 3 AP’s a year. So that means Junior Year, 3 AP’s. Senior year, 3 AP’s. Which means I will only take 7 AP’s in total.

Also, I am taking Honors AlgII/Trig sophomore year, so that is going to be exciting as well. Geometry was pretty hard, mostly because I just hate it. But I did pretty well in my regents exam.

@nothingto: I’m really trying hard to get some new APs, even if they are online. I really want to do AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Calc (not the crap they do at my school), AP Eng Lang, and AP Stats. That’s why I mention NCSSM in most of my posts because I am trying so hard to get there and have the opportunities that I want and need!

I’m looking forward to AP NSL (my first ap class, even if it is just government), Magnet Biology/Earth Sciences, and most of all finishing up Precalc C and beginning Magnet Analysis I second semester this coming year (equivalent to a more indepth AP Calc BC course). I really dislike how the more in depth precalc we took takes place over 3 semesters, since i find it odd not starting a new year with a fresh new course. I want to take the AP bio, AP physics, and AP chemistry exam, but last year I already took both Magnet Physics and Chemistry (each a semester long since it was very fast paced), but because of that I feel I didn’t get a good enough grip to take the test. I figure i need to self study, but i have difficulty being persistent with tasks. Initially i’ll have this… burning motivation and do loads of work, but it slowly diminishes and one day i’m too lazy to do anything. One of my worst flaws, i’m afraid, but I really really want/need to change it.

I’m looking forward to managing some clubs. We have many big things planned, and I enjoy the impact the clubs have created thus far. It’s just so fantastic, fun, joyous, etc., when you can manage a club you started yourself. I’m getting drunk on the self-empowerment.

Hey everyone, i was wondering if you guys could help me out a little, or a lot!! I’m really freaking out!
My college goals are to get into a UC and i’m also in the class of 2014 and i’ve been slacking quite the load lately. My cumlative GPA is 3.4 but i got 2 C’s as a semester grade:( this upcoming year im going to be in alg. 2 but not honors. i play vars volleyball and i was in robotics club if that helps. Any advice, tips and suggestion on how to step up my game, it would really mean a lot to me. Thankyou:)

@HIliving: Even though I don’t know much about the UC system, I will try to help you. First, I think that you really need to boost that GPA. Just be dedicated and a hard worker and it will really pay off. I know people who started out with 2.5s freshman year then worked their way up to 3.8-3.9 GPA senior year and go to schools like UNCW and East Carolina.

Also, get used to the SAT or ACT. They are a key factor in what makes you a good candidate for that college. Use the CollegeBoard’s college finder search and find the median SAT scores for the school.

I think that varsity volleyball is a good thing. Maybe if you could be captain by junior year, then that would make you look good. Try to be a leader in robotics and stay committed. Also, try to do some community service. Babysitting kids, walking dogs, tutoring, or painting an elderly person’s house are good things as long as you are not getting paid.

Lastly, try to exhaust what your school offers. If the highest math class your school offers is Honors Precalc, then take it and pass it with an A! Since the UC system is up there with the Ivies and UNC system when it comes to college systems, try to do the best that you can. If you go to a rinky-dink school out in the boonies that rarely makes AYP and offers no APs then don’t worry. Your guidance counselor should send your college choices some kind of profile about your school.

But, working hard and never giving up is the way to going where you want!

@evanb1996: You’re the best!! Thanks heaps:) really REALLY appreciate it!

You’re welcome HIliving!

Another conversation question: What is one TV show that was cancelled that you wish was still playing during normal watching hours (like 7 am to 11 pm)? Rocket Power for me

^Arrested Development, for sure.

I got another one! In Living Color. I never catch it and when they play it, it is like 1am and on the higher end cable channels.

^Get a DVR, and you’ll never miss shows again!

@Studious: I have one, but my dad is very leery about what is on it. The whole house shares one. I’m going to record a few, since he just cleared some of it off the other day.
