I took Princeton and Pomona off my list because I could not really figure out any distinct reason for why I was applying to them. Except the fact that I like the food clubs at Princeton, but somehow that did not seem to be enough.

I took Princeton off my list because the people who go there from my school are the most stuck-up, bratty rich kids. That’s probably not a good reason, but hey, it’s a reason to eliminate a reach!

I deleted schools first that I wouldn’t attend even with a big merit scholarship.

Deleted:

JHU - crap aid
WUSTL- tries too hard, can’t show interest, low probability for merit
Duke- low probability, in the South, seems ‘sporty’
Brown- may re-add but crap aid (I’m not paying 50k for a UG degree) and it’s super hipsterish
Harvey Mudd - low merit possibility, not great research opps (for me, at least), apparently its ugly
Dartmouth - drunk frat boys (but it has decent aid so may readd) and I don’t get greek
Northwestern- Greeky, no merit, likely bad FA
Vandy - Greek, south

I decided not to do the UNC-CH app since Canada has its own selection process and I can apply if I get selected as a Moorehead Cain scholar.

Deleted from Canada:

UofToronto- it’s cold and I’d have to start over w/o connections for a so-so education.

As an aside, I keep forgetting my CA login password. Maybe its a sign…I save my password on my laptop but when I login on the computer I use at work, I forget and change it and forget it on my laptop. Ugh.

Right now, I have 12 essays to write.

If I were to take off colleges, I’d take off:

UChicago - Not a big fan of the environment (Chicago, “where fun goes to die”), Also, that’d kill off a stressful essay

Cornell - Also a school that I’ve heard has a stressful environment. Plus, it’d kill of an extra essay. Also, I hear there’s heavy Greek life there, and I’m not a big fan of that

Northwestern - Don’t really have a reason for applying there other than it being Northwestern.

haha Cornell… at my school people make fun of it so bad. I asked “So what is Cornell good for? I’m curious” and then the answer was “It’s a really good school for suicides. You know, the gorges just call to you?”

Deleted:
Clark
Dartmouth- no real reason for applying
Lehigh- greeky
Wake Forest- greeky
Kenyon- middle of nowhere Ohio

I deleted:

NYU (god awful aid)

Harvard (lol)

USC (I just wasn’t feeling the school and the aid doesn’t seem that good scholarships aside)

UMich (I was only going to apply here out of peer pressure tbh)

Williams (The school is nice but the isolation honestly frightens a city kid like me)

Wesleyan (the queer culture was my only reason of applying there, not a good reason)

UPenn Wharton (Unrealistic and I rather go here to get my MBA anyways)

Vassar (same as Wesleyan)

I took off JHU, and am thinking about taking off CMU.

I might get rid of CMU depending on my visit in October.

Today was a good day. 8 mile run followed by a day of watching college football with the highlight being my Horns massacring the (other) Aggies.

I’ve got 14±2 schools on my list at the moment. I guess the ratio of reaches/matches/safeties would be something like 8/3/3, but the line between “reach” and “match” schools can be a bit blurry at times. My “match” schools are probably also safeties in terms of admissions but not scholarships. I know really need to trim down the list, but I really do like all of these schools so it’ll be difficult.

Holy crap, 8 miles?

Did anyone get a super cool looking MIT package thingy? I think I’m going to pick my senior quote from one of the quotes they used.

I went on an 8 mile run yesterday…it’s really not that far.

Yeah I got a silvery package from MIT.
Also I agree, 8 miles is not that bad.

I’m a horrible college applicant. I put Princeton back on my list. feeling guilty I guess this could be considered as an investment in my future for an extra $75???

I might put Princeton back on my list if I get stellar grades this semester, but I did absolutely nothing last summer (2012) so I don’t want to write that short-answer essay lol.

Traveling counts as doing something. Did you go anywhere exciting?

I spent a weekend hiking in the Rocky Mountains, which was fun but I don’t think I can milk a short essay out of that. The rest of the time I was either at baseball games or at home. :/

I’d have to focus on the stuff I did this year. Oh well… I hope it doesn’t count much for admission.

That’s a fine summer. Fancy internship stuff isn’t required. They just want to know how you spend your time.
