Mine doesn’t since school is usually dismissed 30 minutes earlier with guards all over the street. Well, at least the first friday when school starts.

Nothing bad really happens at my school. Just a fight here and there. We did have a lockdown last year, but it suprisingly wasn’t reported by any of the local media. I did march to my school district’s central office (along with teachers, parents, and students) to save one principal’s spot my 8th grade year when she was wrongly fired, but she got a lawyer and is now the county English department head.

Would these be good ECs:

FBLA
JETS
Tennis
NHS
STEM
Math Club

A good EC is any EC that shows you’ve dedicated serious time and passion to.

I really need to crack down on my ECs /: so far this year I know I’ll do debate, manage field hockey, orchestra/music, a nonprofit club at my school that annually raises thousands, in the spring I’ll play field hockey, summer I’ll swim, youth group,I’m going to try to get a winter lifeguard job, and I’m trying to start a crew team, but my school is being difficult about it… I want to try to find more academic based ECs like tutoring kids or something… Any suggestions?

Also, I know there are a few IB kids on this thread… Anyone know what they’re MYP project will be? And also is anyone considering the bilingual diploma?

I know I’m crazy but I kinda want school to start…

Freshman!! Jaja here we throw them eggs and balloons full of pee, It’s pretty tough down here. And in college it’s even tougher.

For EC’s i plan on doing Debate, Robotics Team or math team, Envirothon, Piano, and Tennis or XC. My chances at making Tennis this year look pretty dim, considering I’ve never had a proper teacher and have no one to play with. I still want to try out, for the sake of maybe learning a little, and having a sense of what to expect next year, when i try out for real. XC would be my backup for tennis, which i have a low chance of making. Appears my school has tri-M but it’s only available for juniors and seniors, which is probably why i never heard of it until now. I think i’ll do some research into HOSA since our school doesn’t have that…

Have any of you guys heard of/tried for interlochen summer camp for the arts? I really want to try out, since 1) it’d be a great experience (so i’ve read, especially for those in the HS division), 2) I love music (specifically, piano) and it’d be interesting to learn from different instructors and be surrounded by people like myself, and 3) It looks good on a college app. hehe…

Problem is, it’s extremely expensive, over $7000 for a 6 week session for piano located in michigan. See, i would love to apply for one of their scholarships, but from what i’ve read so far, i think only instruments like woodwinds/strings for ensembles/orchestra can qualify. Which sucks. Of course, all of this is assuming i make it, but I think I can, so long as I keep practicing during the school year consistently/2 hrs a day or so. Problem is convincing my parents that it’s well worth their money. It might be helpful to note that my piano fee combined with my younger sister’s is over $400 a month, and that I am not planning to go into a musical career (maybe a minor, or double major if i can handle it…) so they won’t be happy about it. I’m thinking of applying i guess and if i am accepted, and IF make First place in all my competitions this year, i might be able to bargain with them? If only i could get a job, lol.

@upinflight I’d love the opportunity to do that :3 if it is what you want give it your best shot, and if it’s meant to be hopefully the money thing can be figured out (: I think I might do a french immersion camp for a few weeks if I fail at convincing my parents to dish out the cash and let me go to a francophone country…

@upinflight: I would love to learn piano, but I’m stuck on trumpet since my parents are going to pay for my sister’s flute. Good luck with the money part.

@jerevedeparis: French immersion? That sounds so cool, but I would rather do mine in Spanish if I happen to find the money to get into one.

I’m already planning next summer out. First option: [NC Project SEED](http://www.ncprojectseed.org/) Second option: [Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics](http://www.summerventures.org/) and keeping my part time job. But I know that I will definitely do this: [url=http://www.unc.edu/diversity/renaissance.htm]NC Renaissance/url

@jereve–if only there were Latin immersion. Hahaha.

So, remember how I was complaining about having to do 312 pages of boring AP euro summer reading a while ago. At least that was in the size of a paperback book. I have an assignment (due Tuesday) to read from XXXIII-311 for AP euro in “The Western Heritage”. Needless to say, being on this forum is evidence of my procrastination. :). Cherish your remaining days of freedom, children.

^ What kind of high school do you go to? Is it extremely competitive? At my school, the AP Euro class isn’t nearly as difficult from what I’ve heard.

@evanh: You describing your homework for AP Euro makes me want not to take it. I would never take a history AP anyway because I hate history with a passion even though I make 100s all the time. My World History teacher was going to recommend me for AP USH my junior year, but since he resigned, I won’t have to take it!

Im on clarinet. I got upgraded to Symphonic Band (Concert band is beginner, Symphonic Band is intermediate, and Wind Ensamble which I will be going during my junior year/senior year after taking a difficult test at the end of my sophomore year is expert). That’s at my school.

I got a full scholarship ($500 for the tuition for a year) for a Orchestra, so I will use that as my EC.

I have Clarinet Choir after school.

I am in my Marching Band.

I hope my music EC’s show dedication lol.

I am musically challenged lol. Anyone have good ideas about this thing I am in. Its called future educators of Arizona… they have it at my school. So like, has anyone had a good experience with it? You get to go to the elementary school all the time and teach the kids. Hecka fun :)

@thatonegirlie: Do you want to go into education? I feel that if you are, then it will be great experience for you. Plus, you could use the hours that you put in as volunteer hours. I used to tutor in an elementary school and my high school. I totally prefer the high school over 2nd and 3rd graders.

Yeah I do want to go into education. Teaching Elementary school actually. I think it would be a good thing too. How was it tutoring the little ones? What were the hard points and what were the easy points?

The little ones had way too much energy for me! They were some good kids, but they were always distracted by my “magic box” that I brought in everyday (my trumpet) and little petty things. It was hard to get them to concentrate after they got distracted. But, I loved working with them in the end.

I love the energy! But do they pay attention during story time? Could I maybe use distractions to teach him, do you think that strategy would work?

@jerevedeparis: you sound so cool! In my opinion, I think you have a pretty good list of ECs! I’m not saying to never try anything else, but I don’t think you need to “crack down” on anything. :)

My ECs, as of this upcoming year, are active member of the Drama Club, Yearbook, Nordic Skiing (varsity), Lacrosse (varsity), and I’ll be Crew next summer, and Key Club.
They induct students into NHS at the end of this year, so hopefully!

P.S. I’m also excited for school to start. :)

^ Your school has a skiing team? That is so cool! Personally, I’m more of a snowboarder, but it’s still awesome. Quick question: is your Yearbook a class? I’d love to join Newspaper or Yearbook, but they are classes at my school and I’d have to drop acting. Plus you need to be a junior or a senior to partake.
