High School Class of 2014

Hah, lunch periods…
we don’t get lunch periods… we have 8 periods a day, 6 different days
gym every other day, and one out of the 6 days we don’t have class (all classes but science- we have 2 periods in a row then), and during the periods of the day where we don’t have a class, it’s an ‘open’ period where we can do whatever we want…most people study/hang out then…you can eat lunch but my friends and I eat during class-wayy more efficient.

so if you take the maximum number of classes including a performing art, you have no open periods and are doomed to starve

that was my old school though, my new school has a 45 minute lunch? i think.

I had a 10:30 lunch last year, and I’m placed in a 1:15 lunch for the upcoming year, so I’m gonna have trouble in the aspect of starvation. I also have Gym 2 periods before lunch, which makes everything dandy.

So guys what were some of the extra curricular activities you did and are planning to continue?

Scholar’s bowl fo sho

Wrestling

Rugby

Discus

Football
I ranked them based on how excited I am for them to start

My school got a story written about it by the Associated Press…

And not for good things.

We have A and B days. 3 block classes, a community time, a skinny class, 45 min lunch period and advisory, everyday. (not in this order)

Am I close?

My lunch is 26 minutes. My ECs are marching band, SGA, HOSA, concert band, baseball, and probably track or golf (I’m tired of playing baseball for competition, but will just play a pick up game now and again.)

My first week of school was terrible. I have the same teacher for Honors Chem and Honors Physics and he made me do all of the assignments this week twice because he runs over the basics (rules, expectations, how to write a lab report, etc.) in both classes. My facilitator for my Precalc class was very b-wordy and had a horrible attitude the whole week. Plus, the computers in that room don’t work or are missing hardware (one is missing a monitor). I usually love band practice, but the new school dismissal time has been cutting into that and I have had a headache everyday after school just dealing with the schedule. My only good thing about this week was going to Health Sciences 1 everyday.

Not really.

[Student injured, dozens suspended in Grissom High School prank - WAFF.com: North Alabama News, Radar, Weather, Sports and Jobs-](<a href=“Student injured, dozens suspended in Grissom High School prank”>Student injured, dozens suspended in Grissom High School prank)

One kid had to go to the hospital, and from what I’ve gathered, it’s around 86 students suspended.

@grav123: I’ll be in Drama Club next year but I don’t know what else to do. We have a school French club, and since I’m in love with French culture I might join that. And we have an Undead Poet’s Society, as well as an arts/writing club. DECA is a possibility, but everyone in DECA is in the same clique. And Key Club is the same in DECA. Hopefully I’ll become a member of HI-Q/Knowledge Bowl, since my acting teacher is also the teacher in charge of that.

@evanh: It was just a balloon fight?! Goodness, people are reacting a lot. It’s a bummer that somebody was injured, of course, and hopefully it wasn’t too serious, but 86 people being suspended for a balloon fight seems a bit… extreme.

on the previous topic, we have seven class periods a day, with a 25 minute lunch built into 4th period. We have three lunches though, and your lunch depends on what building you are in 4th period (We have 7 buildings, all one floor except the gym)

@evanh: Wow, that’s a pretty severe punishment. Did you witness the balloon fight?

@franzferdinand–It wasn’t just that. They threw them at a random jogger, and a lady walking her dog (it hit the dog) as well as students. They vandalized a sonic, and they’re pressing charges. They also wrote on cars of employees of a nearby church that lets our students park there. They found alcohol in some of the trucks. They picked up a freshman off the street into one of the trucks. (Trucks meaning the pickup trucks of seniors that a bunch of them crowded into to throw the balloons) One kid got hit in the eye, and it burst a blood vessel in his eye and he had to go to the hospital. The news kinda sugar coats it. Apparently one girl saw a kid get pushed down the stairs.

That reminds me of how there was a guy setting fires in the boys bathroom a couple of years ago in my school.

Good thing we caught him and he got sent to jail.

Also, freshmen friday does not exist in my school. I remember the first friday i was there, the seniors and juniors handed cookies and stickers to us, omg, so nice :P

@evanh: Then I could definitely understand the suspensions. It just didn’t make much sense – a simple water balloon fight? It makes sense with the extra information.

@evanh: I really understand now why so many people were suspended. With the info you provided, it totally made sense.

I mean, I can understand why the news is so lacking in information, since most of this I gathered from other students that were either in on the prank or victims of it. I’m going to watch the news at 10 because they apparently are interviewing a student. They just said something in the commercial about the hospital visit.

@evanh14 That’s really crazy. I never heard of a senior prank go so awry like that. Though the prank was a bit more “hardcore” than the average prank, the only thing that makes so much punishment justifiable is the instances you described with the jogger, and the other, rather violent, acts.

Since we’re on the topic of news stories on our respective schools, I’ll share a flattering article that now defines our high school to other neighboring schools (the story got so big, that even the Daily Mail, a UK publication, reported on it): [Dance teacher Ashley Blumenshine arrested for sex in car with student, 16 | Mail Online](<a href=“Dance teacher Ashley Blumenshine arrested for sex in car with student, 16 | Daily Mail Online”>Dance teacher Ashley Blumenshine arrested for sex in car with student, 16 | Daily Mail Online)

My school has a Freshman Friday as well. It was awful; one of my best friends was dragged down the hall by his neck and rudely stuffed in a trashcan. Luckily, actions like this are atypical at my school.
