@MichaelSR - Good grades are good grades. Don’t discount them on your part, just because you think your workload isn’t as “hard” as someone else’s. Regardless of the situation, maintaining any good thing takes hard work and effort, so, everyone’s accomplishments are worth something.

Anywho, I have no idea what my schedule is (or my grades from last semester, as, we don’t get those until we go in to get our new grades or we transfer up/out), but, I’ll find out Monday.

(This is my first post here, so Hi! I was always going through reading everyone’s posts, but I never really posted before).

My Freshman end of the year grades:
Band: 100 A+
PE/Health: 100 A+
English 10: 98 A
Biology 98 A
Logic/Philosophy: 100 A+
Chinese 2: 99 A+
Ancient World History: 98 A
Geometry: 99 A+

This year (sophomore), I was accepted into AP World History and AP Biology (the only AP courses offered for 10th graders), and I really wanted to take both. BUT my school counselor didn’t let me. He said it was too rigorous, since I was going to take a mandatory computer class with lots of work, and that I’d come crying to him to change my schedule. I was forced to choose one (I chose AP Biology), but I regret not taking both /sigh

That sucks because at my school they offered both of those AP courses for freshmen and the counselors actually approved of students taking both.

@NaeShelle thanks for the support haha by the way my name isn’t Michael it’s Michal (pronounced Me-hall and I am a girl) haha people make this mistake all the time @wjdrk7 your situation sucks Im sorry. Counselors can be a pain haha I’m sure though that you will do very well in AP Bio.

Does anyone else’s school have like no APs available to underclassmen? At my school there is absolutely no way a sophomore can be in AP calc or AP Chem. I managed to get into 4 AP classes this year (AP psych, enviro, Human geo (online) and stats ) and I snuck into 3 of them lol.

Yeah, my school doesn’t either. Freshman can take APHG and sophomores can take APES or AP Psych. Kinda sucks, especially because even though I’m a sophomore I still meet all the pre-reqs for AP Bio and I wanna take it so badly…

I also hate how my school has no honors options for math classes, chemistry (they have AP but you have to take two years of chem before that), or world languages.

Yup, no APs are offered to freshmen at my school, and the only AP course offered to sophomores is AP US History 1 (two year course, lol I feel like I’ve said that too many times now).

My school has AP World History as a 2-year 9th-10th course, and 10th grade can also take AP Bio. I’m going into 10th grade soon, I was eligible for AP Bio but some of the upperclassmen that were taking it told me that I should take honors Chem first…I listened.

As for AP World…I was transferring to a new district for 9th grade so I wasn’t really paying attention to AP classes (more concerned about my new school). My old district had pre-AP 9th grade english and social studies (if you took one, you had to take the other)…I think I was eligible for it at the old district but I didn’t want to do all the pre-requisites.

At my school sophomores and freshmen can normally only take ap psych and ap human geography. I took algebra I in eighth grade, and doubled up in math freshman year and took a course over the summer so I could take ap physics and Calc sophomore year. It was pretty easy and not a lot of work …
My school offers 23 APs btw (or something like that, a few of which are language APs)

@teaspoons: You are so lucky My school has 12 APs. lol. We are not allowed to take summer courses and we are not allowed to double up. Freshman can’t take any APs and sophomores are only supposed to take AP psych.

Gah. First weekend and I got homework in 5 out of 6 classes.

I already really don’t like my history teacher. She gave us a DBQ, but never really explained to us how to do them. She just gave is the rubric and said “due Monday”.

I’m taking Honors U.S. History. The teacher has a reputation for giving out a ton of work, and so far, she’s lived up to that. (two essays in the first five days).

@applephil: Sounds like you have an awesome counselor who’s willing to push students who actually want to do better in school. When I told my counselor I try hard in school and study to around midnight and over (he asked specifically for my sleeping time), he told me it was unhealthy and that I needed to sleep at 10PM. Then he mentioned how if my unhealthy habits were continued, he might have to “chat with my parents” and “check out my personal life”. :(

@MichalSR: Thanks. So far, it’s okay! Good luck for your subjects too!

@NaeShelle Thanks. It’s not a big deal because people get my name wrong all the time haha I’m very used to it by now @wjdrk7: thanks I’ll need it haha

@alexH that does suck :\ my school offers so much and even though a lot of kids think the school is cheap or crappy I’m glad I have all this stuff offered to me. Also, are you sure your school doesn’t offer online courses (during the summer)? I took my precal course through NCVPS (north Carolina virtual public schools) and had kids from all over (idk if they were in my school district tough, since my district covers a huge space) .
And yeah, my school starts tomorrow too, I’m pretty nervous , I have a huge schedule conflict and idk what to do about t :

I got into student council for this year but if you’re in student council you have to take the class all year Lon everyday in third block… It’s a standard class do it’ll bring my gpa down, and I’ll have to get rid of world history or French III to fit it in! there is a possibility that I can talk to the teacher and ask to be in it for only one semester (instead of two) or switch to one of the teachers other classes (not that that will help any)… Student council is really hard to get into at my school (26 out of 2800 kids make it) but idk what to do!! Should I just not do it? Also if I do end up taking it it might mess up the rest of my schedule and I might get English first semester instead of second (I didnt do the summer reading so if it changed to first semester I’ll have to rush to read 600 pages in a few days…) help?

@Teaspoons: Sorry to hear about the schedule conflict!! I was trying to take a course through NCVPS but the counselor said I couldn’t because its not in the budget. (Small, rural poor school lol). I asked many times and went to the principal just to be told no. And I didn’t want to ask my parents to pay for an online course because I’m already doing national volleyball which has a lot of expenses.

Oh and why don’t you take out world history? (shouldn’t you have taken that last year?)

How’s everyone’s grades? You guys satisfied? I’ve been trying really hard this year, so it definitely shows! Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard.
