High School Class of 2015

Our school doesn’t do progress reports until next month, but meanwhile, we can check our grades online. Mine:

Honors English: 99%
Honors Western Civ: 92% (test essays killed me)
Spanish: 99%
Theology: 97%
Honors Chemistry: 100% (my chem teacher rarely updates her gradebook, so my actual grade is probably much lower :()
Band: 101%
Honors Precalc: 97% (again, test KILLED me, but corrections brought it up again to an A :))

Aghh smart people in really high math classes…I always get stuck with bad teachers. That, and the fact I just completely suck at math isn`t a great combination. But, I still have half a grading period, and we just started stuff I am somewhat good at. Congrats on the great grades everyone :)

I’m taking Pre calc next semester…gahhh wish me luck on that!

@elf2eva: Gosh, you are so lucky you get corrections!!! And whats it like having 7 classes a day? I have 4 classes for 90 minutes each and a 28 minute lunch. Then I take AP Human Geo online after school at home. I couldn’t balance a 7 class schedule!!!

Good grades to everyone by the way!!! :)

I`ve got 4 classes at 90 minutes plus a 28 minute lunch and I wish I could have more classes…that way I could fit more APs and math classes in.

Well I switch every semester. So this semester I’m taking alg 2 honors and next semester I’m doubling up and taking AP stats and pre cal. I love the set up of the 2 semesters

Yeah same here…8 classes a year altogether.

Eeeep our quarter ends in two weeks! (Sept. 28) Hopefully I can keep my grades up until then!
I’m really scared for my AP World class – we have an NHD paper due soon that’s worth 500 points O.O!
Do any of you guys do NHD? My teacher’s like a Nazi about it xD

I have seven classes everyday (well six every other day because of gym). I kinda like having 50 min classes (except for 100 min chem class every other day), but it usually goes down to 40 min with 10 minutes wasted by late people, distractions, etc. The whole advisory every Wednesday policy has made every class 52 min & 1st period 57 min (again, time is wasted, and the normal schedule only takes place on Wednesdays).

Last week in English, we had to write an argument for whatever we wanted, and my argument was that the school goes on a block schedule. I think I handled that essay pretty well, aha.

@AlexHarper We have seven classes per semester but only six classes a day (one class gets rotated out every day, except usually on the last day of the week, when three classes get rotated out) for 55 minutes each. It’s actually pretty manageable. I mean, the classes at my school aren’t overly difficult at all (except honors precalc this year - I’m going to die in this class, even though I already know the material LOL), but it’s just that we get an unnecessarily large amount of homework every night. I’m not playing any sports this year (thank god, I played tennis last year and stayed up until 2 every night, and that was FRESHMAN year), so I should be getting a decent amount of sleep, since the only thing other than homework I have to do is flute practice. But then again, I have horrible time management skills, so we’ll see… this post is getting really long…

My school has the same schedule as @alex Harper and @CE527M I like it because you can double up on certain subjects if you want

my school has 9 40-minute periods.

so did you guys have off today and yesterday for Rosh Hashanah? My school did, even though there are almost no jews in my school…

@petlover only the Jewish kids were off school, we seems a sensible way of doing it as there are about 8 in the whole school.

I’ve finally got my textbook for additional maths, which I’m studying on my own this year, and about half of it is calculus, it’s going to be a fun year.

And we have 5 hour long lessons, and an hour for lunch every day. I prefer longer lessons because it gves you more time to get into the subject and it means we have to stop in the middle of stuff less.

Current grades (progress reports come out in a week or two):

Ceramics - A
AP Calculus AB - A
AP Physics B - A
Student Council - no grades yet
Honors English - 83, from hw and a test that everyone did bad on
AP Psych - 87ish…

Also I gotta ask you guys our opinion.
In my district or state its technically against the law to test (even have a quiz or something) on a Jewish holiday… A friend of mine (who’s not Jewish…) was mad that a certain class took a test on a Jewish holiday a little while ago. I argue that it’s sort of a silly law since we disregard other holidays from Muslim, Hindu, Greek orthodox, or many other religions. She countered that Christians get Christmas and all their holidays off… But I’m pretty sure winter break ad other breaks were made in the us due to harvesting and it being too cold to get to school… :\ whats your take on things guys?

I haven’t gotten my progress report yet and we don’t have grades online. :frowning: I hope I get mine soon…

@MichalSR…I like how we can double up in classes (That really helps me because I
m behind in math and can get ahead) but just wish we had one more class a day. But it
s fine. I also don`t like 90 minute classes…

@Teaspoons....GOOD GRADES! :)

@petlover and Teaspoons....so I live in a rural area where theres one high school fro the county, and we dont get days of for Jewish holidays, and theres no rule about not testing. I have a friend whos Jewish and Ive known her since elementary school, and she always is absent for Jewish holidays and just tells the teacher ahead of time to get the work. I think It would be nice to have extra days off (Wow...I sound selfish) and it IS true that people like me (a Christian) get Christmas and everything. But if we counted in all the religious holidays from ALL religions....wed almost never be in school, or so it seems at least. Yes, I certainly see your point about the crops, etc. I also think that a reason weve always had Christmas, Easter, etc, etc, is because America (while there is a separation between church and state) was founded mainly by Christians, so thats why we got that off, and its always been a majorly Christian country (No offense to ANYONE here...I just think thats why)....so, I think its unfair to Jewish people and those of other religions, but if we took time off for every holiday, wed be at school a few times a month.

Also, at my school, you can miss school for religious holidays and it`ll be an excused absence.

That
s my take on it…sorry it was long, but I try to be objective…sorry if it wasn
t.

How many elective classes does your school require?

My school requires one year of a visual or performing arts class, although a lot of people take art classes all four years, just because our art program is supposedly really good. No PE requirement either (yay!).

Eh, like 3 or 4 altogether…like 1 for “fine arts”…which is anything having to do with drama/journalism/art/etc. and the rest can be whatever. I don
t keep track. I choose an elective, choose which core classes, and then just focus on it…I honestly don
t know how many credits I have…

We have where we can get a standard diploma or advanced (for those who wish to go to college) and for advanced, we have to get two more credits, and take 4 semesters for each core subject. I just checked…it`s 4 electives, and 1 fine arts credit.

This is what the website says for advanced diploma (In case any of you are wondering what exactly others have to do to graduate)

English – 4 credits
Mathematics – 4 credits
Laboratory Science – 4 credits
Social Studies – 4 credits
Foreign Language (3 years of 1 language or
2 years of 2 languages) – 3 credits
Health and Physical Education – 2 credits
Fine Arts/Practical Arts – 1 credit
*Electives (1) – 4 credits
Total: 26 credits

AND–

Students must also earn 9 SOL Verified Credits
to earn an Advanced Studies Diploma
( 2 Verified Credits in English, 2 Math, 2 Science,
2 Social Studies and 1 Student Choice)
