I think I’m going to take it junior year right when school starts because I really don’t want to take it more than once. That happened to me with the sat bio and it was really annoying because I had to re-study everything since by the time I took it the second time, I had already forgotten most of the material As for the SAT I’m aiming for 2200+. However, I don’t think I’m going to take the ACT as it’s not that popular where I live.

@rose: What are the SAT averages for your school? Just curious b/c there’s a lot of asian people at my school so scoring a 2300-2400 is not really a surprise. It really sucks though because I’m asian myself and I constantly feel the pressure of doing extremely well (on everything basically).

Oh and as for EC’s:
UNICEF club
Project Sunshine
STEM
MHS/tutor thing
FHS, NAHS, NHHS, NEHS
art
xc/track
I plan to work at Kumon (tutor little kids ahaha) in the spring, and hopefully an internship at the local hospital over the summer. (keeping my fingers crossed lol)

@rose I think the high score at our school this year was between 1900 and 2000. The valedictorian has an 1830 and 30 ACT.

@cem I will mail you $20 if I start dating her. I’ve known the boyfriend since 1st grade. They’re planning on getting married and all that. Some of the guys on the bus took pictures of her sleeping on me and wanna send them to him lol.

^haha that would be SO funny if they did. No, most people will just fall asleep on the guys on the way back from field trips and whatnot, it`s just a normal thing. Actually, one of my guy friends fell asleep on this girl on time. very funny.

@lulloftheocean Actually, my school is mostly white (about 2 Asians per grade) and our average SAT I believe is a 1900. I go to a competitive, college-preparatory all-girls Catholic school, so the scores should be a bit higher than those at the average school, but we do have a wide range of intelligence. I’m sure many people have gotten 2300+ but I was just amazed that a junior got a perfect score, let alone in the very beginning of the year. That kinda sucks about all of the pressure on you. Is it from your parents or your peers in school? I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well, but my parents don’t really push me.

^What
s it like going to school with only girls? I
m pretty good friends with all the guys at my school, so I couldn`t deal with all girls, I think.

@CE527M it’s SO much better, at least academically. Everyone is so motivated and it just wouldn’t be the same with guys. Before high school, I thought it would be a lot different without them, but I really don’t even notice it. We don’t have to worry about how we look, or about being embarrassed by asking questions in class, or seeming nerdy. It seems horrible, but it’s actually great.

@rose: It’s actually mostly from my peers but my parents pressure me to do well too. However, because of the people I hang out with, everyone gets around the same grades, so if you were to do poorly on something, it’s sort of embarrassing to show to your friends. I sometimes wish I went to a private school because I feel like I would be able to focus a lot more on studying instead of worrying about going to social events constantly.

I’m at an all-girls school, and it sucks. Hopefully I’ll be leaving at the end of the year :)

Are girls not allowed in boy scouts in the US? Here they are, but guides are still all girls.

As for SAT plans, probably beginning of junior and senior year, I won’t be able to take it in the spring/summer because of the number of other exams I’ll have

@UK Girl:
Boy Scouts is for Boys
and
Girl Scouts is for Girls
at the age of 14
Girls and Boys can do the high adventure CO-ED program called Venturing

I like this better because for the most part the BSA likes outdoorsy thingsf. The GSA has turned into Political Activism.

Also, Boys tend to better with other boys rather than other girls and vice versa

We have:
Beavers, cubs, scouts- all part of scouts, you go to the one appropriate for your age. Open to boys and girls

Rainbows, brownies, Guides, all part of Girl Guides, which is the equivalent. There’s a lot of debate over whether boys should be allowed in, but it looks like they won’t be for the moment.

After age 13 they merge (I think) to form Explorers, which is technically part of scouts. Not sure if a separate guides thing carries on past this age.

I took it in 7th grade (through Duke TIP) and got a 1330

In 9th I took it in the winter and got an 1820 (superscore I think or whatever)

I think im gonna take my SATs one more time in Junior Year, and once more senior year. Same for ACT. I’m hoping for all 700+ for each section… But I know that’s a reach… it’s only because I really want to go to Princeton (or Chapel Hill or one of my other top schools)… If it ends up that I don’t want to go, it’s okay, but I want to make sure all my options are open.

Also … I honestly don’t even get the gay straight alliance… Not to sound ignorant or anything… To me it’s like having a White/minorities alliance… I also feel like only gays join that club (okay all the people I know in the club, 5-10, and they all happen to be gay). But seriously… I feel like its just a kind of pointless club… Most clubs have something they do like compete or do fundraiser a or do community service… Or some clubs (writing club, photography club, etc) collaborate artistically or intellectually… At my school GSA just hangs out… I mean, the name kind of says it all… But still

Oh I remember when I was a Boy Scout. I think I lasted about about an hour before I was bored out of my mind and quit. We have a couple of boyscouts in our school. They all fit the blond white boyscout stereotype. Ill make jokes about their boyscouting, but they know I’m just messing around. Some of them try to hard to be cool

“Yo dawg lets go smoke some weed, but I gotta be at my scout meeting by 5.” Haha

@teaspons our school is so gay friendly we don’t need a GSA.

I honestly think mine is aswell. The only thing that gets any reaction are the lesbians that have red and blue and purple hair and tons of piercing (not sure if they’re considered goth or punk or what) and when they make out in between classes… But I mean, nothin can be perfect

Did anybody get letters from colleges? I keep getting them starting from two days ago. They don’t know anything about me yet - I don’t even have a PSAT score yet.

I
ve been getting stuff from colleges since 8th grade. I must
ve gotten over 200 letters from them, and only about 15 from ones I`m interested in.
