my advice to freshmen: if you think you have a chance for valedictorian or salutatorian, go for it. most unaware freshmen (even the smartest ones) dont think about this until much later. so if you’re focused from the start, you’ll have a hUGE advantage

At my school you can be valedictorian if you have a 4.0

I have no clue how to be valedictorian in my HS. Guess i’ll find out.

What kind of advantage does that give you?

But don’t most people find out that they’re val till after college apps are submitted? So in that respect, it doesn’t really make much of a difference in terms of advantages college-wise.

My school doesn’t release class rank except for scholarships.

my school doesn’t have class rank but we have an award that seniors can get for having the highest gpa

I’ve lurked cc occasionally and decided to join once I saw class of 2015 thread.

You guys put my freshman schedule to shame. Now granted I can only get so far ahead, but I screwed up really bad 8th grade year although last two quarters I managed to as and bs. I’m actually pretty smart but my teachers and my parents always tell me I’m not living up to my full potential. So I promised myself that I would change for high school.

Anyways here’s the schedule:
Honors Algebra I
Geometry
Honors World History
Honors English I
Biology
Honors Spanish I/II

I already took Algebra I in 8th grade but I’m algebraically ■■■■■■■■ so I’m re taking it to get a better understanding. I would have been in Honors Biology but my science teacher screwed me over. I already took Spanish I but we didn’t cover enough material so I’m taking an accelerated Spanish I/II class that my school offers.

You guys all seem super intelligent. I’m scared that I’m going to make a grammar or spelling error o.O

Don’t worry about a grammar or spelling error. Let the upperclassmen make corrections on those.
I’m betting the Class of 2016 thread pops up by April 2012.

When I look at all of your posts, I feel really intimidated…(: Where I live, no one seems to care about college, and then I discover this whole community of people trying to create a bright future for themselves. Good job guys! Well, anyways, here’s my frosh schedule:

Honors Humanities (English + SS)
P.E.: dance, yoga, cardio (yes, I am taking 3 gym classes)
Honors Pre-Calc
Earth Science
Digital Photography
French II
Pottery

I’m hoping to ask the school if I can take biology or chemistry in 9th grade, but they are classes normally reserved for upperclassmen. Do you think it’d be possible to do this? And which should I take first? (I’m planning to do chemistry Olympiad sometime) Thanks!

How the heck are you already doing honors Pre Calc?

I have an Algebra II book open in front of me right now. I took geometry last year and after some prodding, the school’s miraculously letting me study Algebra II over the summer. If I pass the test in August, I can move on to Pre-Calc.

Where are you planning on taking the Online Math and Physics courses?

The math online is done through my school and the physics course is done through keystone online high school

I’m jealous of those of you who plan ahead so well, even including ECs. I can’t. Because I really don’t know that much about my HS. Will have to wait to see what clubs are interesting. I know I’ll keep doing my music and ice skating. and I love to make movies. I actually made some promotional movies for our board of ed. Also I may be able to get a volunteer job in a radio station. I’ll help edit the sound files, etc.

@shmluza, me neither - I mean I also don’t know that much about my high school. you are not alone.

@nomatterwhat, :)

Anyone can recommend more Agatha Christie’s books? I’ve read A murder is announced", “and then there were none” * and * Murder on the Orient Express."
