^Class of 2016?

Did any of you go to cal day @UC Berkeley? It was awesome. I never knew that the student body had so much school spirit. There were people protesting that the tuition should be free and people walking around in bikinis.

omg lol these freshmen walkin in with 3 APs
are they joking or something?

lol . . . . they just don’t know.

people are different. Some walk in HS with 3 APs, some haven’t taken any AP until their junior years.
I have friends who have never taken any AP now and they’re sophomores. I think it’s okay unless they want to get into a very good college. APs are actually designed for juniors and seniors.

It’s foolish to think that APs at designed for particular grades, nomatterwhat. They are fitted for the individual. If you can take all these APs during freshman year, more power to you.

I’m taking AP gov exam in like 3 weeks. anybody else? I’m freaking out…

Hey guys. Curious for some opinions on my sophomore schedule next year. My freshman year was quite poor, as I paid very little attention to my grades during the first semester, not to mention the fact that we were given zero choice in courses, only if we were interested in honors or not. I have been doing quite well in the second semester, and although I’ve only received an 88% with about a month to go in one of them, I’ve been basically guaranteed an A (90%) from the teacher.

Keep in mind that I go to school in Texas, leaving me with very little choice aside from electives. Under the newly introduced system, we have to pass twelve EOCs in order to graduate, including Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2, Bio, Chem, Physics, Eng 1, Eng 2, Eng 3, World Geo, World History, and US History. Because of this, I am not able to get ahead in math, and sit at quite a disadvantage compared to all of the far more intelligent individuals on this site, haha.

I also go to school online, partially due to an impairment in my hands that causes my handwriting to be at a third grade level, and partially because a brick and mortar school was far too easy for me, especially considering the lack of ability to work ahead.

Freshman Year:
Sem 1:
World Geography - 85% (B)
Honors Biology - 87% (B)
Algebra 1 - 96% (A)
Honors English - 85% (B)
Spanish 2 - 87% (B)
Health (1 sem) - 95% (A)
P.E. - 99% (A)

Sem 2:
World Geography - 96% (A)
Honors Biology - 103% (A)
Algebra 1* - 95% (A)
Honors English - 97% (A)
Spanish 2 - 93% (A)
Reaching Your Academic Potential (1 sem) - 88% (B)
P.E.* - 99% (A)

*Course already completed

In the upcoming year, my school is adding a large amount of courses with the addition of 12th grade, leaving me a variety of choices for my sophomore year including Fine Arts, Music Appreciation, Journalism (1 sem), Sociology (1 sem), Psychology (1 sem), AP Psychology, Anthropology, Data Entry (1 sem), Multimedia, Computer Science, Principles of Information Technology, Personal Finance (1 sem), Environmental Science (1 sem), and Astronomy.

*One of these is required for graduation.

I’m extremely interested in taking AP Psychology next year, as it is the only AP offered to sophomores. I’m also attempting to seduce my counselor into allowing me to take AP Macro in place of an elective, as my school offers both AP Micro and Macro, but only for seniors. I’m also very interested in journalism, being an avocationist in sports writing, particularly European football (soccer).

As far as foreign language goes, I’ve already taken the graduation requirement for foreign language (2 years) in Spanish. I’m not interested in taking a third year, mainly because the first and third year teacher hates my guts, accusing me the previous year of using a translation service when I couldn’t quite grasp some conjugations and subsequently guessed while doing an assignment. This upcoming year, like the electives, my school is offering a wide variety of foreign languages including French (up to AP), German (up to 2), Latin (up to 2), and Mandarin (up to 2).

I’ve been very interested in German and Mandarin for awhile now, and although I know nothing aside from greetings, I’m confident I will be able to do decent in them. However, I don’t know if I’m capable of taking another foreign language on top of my already challenging (for me) schedule. If not, I’ll take Astronomy.

My schedule so far looks like this:

Honors English II
Honors Geometry
Honors World History
Honors Chemistry
AP Psychology
AP Macro/Journalism or Journalism/Personal Finance (or another suggestion?)
Astronomy or Foreign Language?

Would you consider this a decent schedule?

Thanks for any assistance you guys are able be able to offer, and no need to point out I’ve already royally fracked myself with my poor first semester, I’m well aware of it, haha :(. Apologies for any grammar mistakes, a bit tired at the moment.

Just received word from my counselor - no chance of taking AP Macro. Disappointed to say the least. Oh well.

That’s alright dune297! You can take it later in time. Update guys! I got a leadership position with my Junior Civitan chapter :D. That makes two leadership positions so far.

Congratulations Hobbit. Only problem is I wanted to have Macro done this year so I could take Micro in my senior year, sadly can only take one and that’ll be in my senior year.

They don’t combine Micro/Macro classes at your school?

I believe we have to take 1 semester of economics and 1 semester of government to graduate.

Congrats Hobbit! You made me jealous. LOL I hope I get one leadership position some time in high school.

Congrats as well Hobbit! I also got a leadership position at Youth Court too, and I’m interviewing for the Partners Club one on Monday. I’m so nervous, haha

OK I did several sample tests. (APGOV.) I think I’m ready. :)

anybody else taking AP exams? or all those who are taking them are too busy to get on CC. :p

@shmluza I’m not taking any AP exams but my friends are taking like these mock exams, which are driving them crazzzzyyyy! So glad I am not taking AP for my freshman year, but will definitely do so next year for 10th.

@narinra, Hope you have fun with your APs. I’m certainly having fun, even though it’s a lot of work. I’m sure you will do well in Algebra. It’s easy. AP bio sounds like fun. I LOVE biology. According to my friends, environmental science is easy.

Yay, I got my leadership position in Partners Club! I’m so happy because I love working with Special Olympics so much, so this leadership position means a lot to me.
