High School Class of 2015

@akacesfan, congrats! I’m jealous. :p

@SHmluza, I’m taking AP gov. and I’ll get a 5 in the exam in two weeks. :smiley: YES I WILL.

I’m taking APUSH next year. Should I take SAT US history at the end of the year as well? If I do well in APUSH, maybe I should be okay for SATII US history? Does anybody know?

I think it would be safest to take SAT 2 USH next year, and take it in May or June when there’s going to be AP exams/finals anyway since you would already be reviewing in the first place.

I have a similar question - so in general, are SAT subject tests and APs are at about the same level? for example, APUSH and AP chem?

At my school, we can’t take APs until sophomore year…but I’m taking the Bio SAT this June, and I’m really nervous…any of you guys out there taking the Bio SAT? I was thinking of choosing the Ecology counterpart, but some people say that Molecular is easier–any advice?

I’m also taking the Biology Subject Test this June. Some of my friends took it yesterday, and there are in AP Biology. They found the problems confusing because of all the diagrams and stuff.

Initially, I was going to self-study AP Psychology and AP Euro. Unfortunately, I didn’t start studying until two months prior to the exam. Therefore, I’ll be studying over this summer and will be taking the test in my sophomore year. Is anyone else planning to self-study a few AP courses over the summer?

@starkali
I would consider self-studying AP classes, but i have no idea how to start?

@EmBio02,
Your schedule doesn’t look rigorous at all. Take some AP classes.

@EmBio02:
Well, I would suggest that you visit the AP Preparation Forum:
[AP Tests Preparation - College Confidential](AP Test Preparation - College Confidential Forums)

Which AP courses are you considering? Feel free to PM me. We may actually be able to self-study together, depending on which courses you choose.

@starkali, do you take ap chem or US history next year?

@skarkali, I do something in the summer to prepare myself for ap chem. I heard it’s a very difficult subject. So I’m doing a summer course (two weeks) and will self study some before and after that summer course. I’ve never learned chemistry before except for a little bit in science, middle school.

@HobbitTan My gosh, I hate the diagrams. I just went to a review session for Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration and frankly I am freaking out. With all of my other work, I haven’t had time to do any review outside of school whatsoever–I live in New York, so I had NYSSMA last night–an evaluation that determines our participation/seats next fall in Area All-State or All State, though freshman cannot apply for All State. Anyway, I’m learning more and more everyday how much I despise Biology. I enjoy learning, but I resent forced learning. I don’t even know why I signed up for this test. Right now I’m just really confused. I guess you can probably tell.

@thenextALW, so are you in all state band or orchestra or something?

I’m also planning on self studying an Ap or two over the summer. I’m planning on Ap comp sci and Ap physc. Has anyone done these or planning to? Any ideas/tips?

No, you can’t participate in New York All-State until the fall of your junior year. It can seem kind of complicated to someone who has never participated in it, but I’ll try to explain it as best I can–NYSSMA organizes the Area All State and All State festivals that take place in the fall. In the spring before, students audition at official NYSSMA festivals to receive a score from a qualified judge. Later, this score is then sent in with a teacher recommendation to determine whether or not the student is able enough to participate in Area All State or All State, as well as what chair they should be assigned. I hope to be accepted into Area All State next fall based on the score I just received last Tuesday. An Area All State festival is simply a collection of counties/boroughs in the same region. To determine the number of counties/boroughs in each festival, New York is separated into I think about thirteen zones. Sorry if this makes no sense. I tried.

Oh, and to answer the more simple aspect of your question–I am a clarinetist, so I’ll be applying to the band program.

@presque. only ap for sophomores is enviro, and I don’t have room for it. None allowed for froshies. I am planning on taking 3 junior and senior year though…
